obsessive carpet licking Hi everyone, this one is a weird one. Occasionally Wallee will find a place on our carpet and start licking and digging at it. He will continue to do this until I go to the spot and tell him no. Sometimes he won't stop until I spray vinegar and water on the spot. I have steam cleaned my carpets twice already since I got him using pet cleaning solutions and if there are any "accidents" I use the enzyme cleaners to clean the spots immediately. I have 4 cats in the house as well and also use the cleaners when they spit up any hair balls. I never usually see anything in the spots he chooses to lick until after he has licked them for a while..lol..Then it seems that he creates a spot. Has anyone else ever experienced this and do you think it has anything to do with the cats? Obviously he seems to be sniffing out something that I cannot see. |
We have no cats and Roxie does this all the time, just about daily. She doesn't usually have accidents in the house, and when she does, we have always used the enzymatic cleaner to clean it up. The spots she chooses to lick aren't in places where she's had an accident or thrown up...she just picks random places to lick. I have no idea why. I'll be checking back to see if you get any good responses, though! |
My Allie does this every now and then. There is nothing on the carpet at all and nothing has ever been spilled in the area she has licked. So, what I usually do is bring out cleaning spay and clean the area just in case there is something there I can't see. |

Columbo does the same thing now and then. No spills, stains and no other pets. He just sometimes grazes the carpet and licks. Glad to know he is not alone in his weirdness ;) |
Our Kinder likes to lick the carpet or even fuzzy toys. Our vet told us to not let her do this because they can get that fuzz and lint stuck in their tummies. I just tell tell no no icky and she usually stops. I do not buy her the fuzzy toys anymore either just the soft rubber ones. Susan |

My female Japanese Chin, Yoshi, licks my pillow. I suspect it is because I drool on it at night....:p:eek:. I change my pillowcase every day. Louise and Zachary |

Buster will lick the carpet but I feel usually he smells treat crumbs as I break them into smaller pieces and lately he loves to lick Jack's feet :eek: I think maybe for the salt? |
We have no carptet and Zoey licks my clothes. She will sit on my lap and lick my pants. She does this everyday. I make her stop. Weird. |
I am so happy to have found this forum and be able to hear others' stories that are so similar to mine. Although many of my friends and family have dogs and most have always had them, this seems to be the first yorkie. Many of the things this little guy does seem to be common amongst other little yorkies and I feel good to hear it after my friends looking at me like I am crazy,:rolleyes: Another thing most of my friends don't understand is the pee pad thing. Although Wallee goes outside, he still uses the pad in the house most of the time rather than ask to go out. He will ask to go outside to poo, but if I somehow don't get there on time he will try to get it on the pad. I have never had a dog use these before but have come to accept it. I am hoping that when the hormones change from being neutered that he won't need to peek as often. When my friends ridicule me for him still having pads in my living room (put in the place he continued to use even without pads), I tell them they are like his security blanket and he is not ready to give them up.;) |
I know what you mean about the pee pads. Before I got Mandie, I thought it was just silly to have stuff inside one's house for a dog to go potty on. Dog's can be trained to go outside. That's that. Then a Yorkie came into my life and I completely changed my tune. At first, I said she needs pee pads because she's so young and can't hold it if I'm away too long. Then, I came to understand that they really are harder to housebreak than most dogs (any dog I've ever had anyway). Now, I'm thinking even if she is completely housebroken, I'll be keeping the pee pads cuz of days like today..rain, rain, rain ..non-stop rain. "Go pee on the pee pad, Sweetie" and off she goes..so much easier (smh at myself lol) P.S. I forgot to add that when I read the first several posts on this thread, I was thinking, "Maybe they are just trying to get more fiber..." hehe (bad joke, I know) |
