Overdosed dog with Benadryl by mistake How serious is it if my husband gave my dog about two or three times the recommended dosage of Benadryl? He misread CCs vs ml.... |
Call Poison control center ASAP They can advise for dogs too |
On the phone with emergency vet. Just on hold and worried. |
I found this It is hard to overdose on Benadryl with an animal or human, but it does happen in rare cases. The main signs of overdose are swollen limbs and difficulty breathing. A major overdose can even lead to death. In case of an overdose, the owner needs to induce vomiting in their pet and contact their veterinarian immediately. |
Never mind....apparently cc and ml is the same. Stupid metric system making me panic! |
I am do glad everything worked out |
Thanks for all the quick help though! Boy do I feel like a goober! :) |
don't feel bad is a common mistake, glad everything was good.. hugs, |
Glad everything turned out ok |
Yep, ml and CC are the same |
I'm glad everything turned out ok. I wouldn't have known cc and ml were the same either. |

When I look at some of my elderly parents medication, the dose is sometimes written in YELLOW on WHITE, in teensy lettering - or even kind of imprinted into the cardboard like reverse braille.....it drives me mad, and is surely very dangerous? :( I'm so sorry you had that panic - thank goodness all is well! :) Sally + Harry x |
Just glad everything is OK!! Louise and Zachary |
DONT WORRY!!! A "cc" and a "ml" is the same thing!!! MADE ME CRAZY IN NURSING SCHOOL YEARS AGO!!!!!! |
When we gets meds at the vet, our vet tech marks a line on the syringe with permanent marker at the exact amount to be administered (don't know if everyone's vet does this?). But I thought it was so great, that I rubberbanded syringes to all the meds in ZoE's first aid kit with the exact amount clearly lined. It was great last summer when she was stung, and I grabbed the benedryl and knew exactly what to give her...then we headed to the vet for a quick check up. Of course, I only have one dog, so I don't need to worry about different sizes/weights of multiple dogs. |
