Questions about "lipstick" I hate to ask this but I really couldnt find any answers on my own. The dog I was fostering "Oliver" has his doggie lipstick stuck out of its container if you know what I mean. The skin around his penis rolls inwards and has to be lubed up and manipulated to its normal position. We are not sure yet how often this needs to be done but they are hoping to find an adopter that does not mind doing this. The vet staff said the surgery to fix this is really expensive but everything I'm reading on this condition says you should do something about it. He doesnt seem like it bothers him, the area isnt swollen or anything but I wonder if they are not taking this serious enough or if I'm being too paraniod and overprotective. Any one else experienced this? Is their anything you can add to thier diet or skin to help at all?? Does anyone have a dog they have to do this to?? |
If you trim the hair on it short , it will help with that problem. Also you can use KY & put a tiny bit on it then gently pull the skin out so it will unroll & then gently pull the skin back over it. Does he lick himself often ? as that's often a cause, as they will lick it dry. |
As much as I love mine I honestly don't know if I could umm lube his lipstick daily... You my dear are a very special loving better than me person :p |

I would check into a rescue that refuses to help. If it was just a minor problem then it would be fine but it seems that if left unattended this dog would get into some serious problems. Since he has already been passed on by other owners he needs help in order to secure a home. Maybe call around to some other vets to get opinions and costs. It is amazing how much prices and methods can vary from on clinic to another. When one of our cats dislocated his hip we checked around and the prices the various vets wanted to fix it went from $800.00 to $2800.00. |

LOL my little Boo also dates his stuffed lover pig and zebra which he sleep with in his crate, (cheats on both with eachother! :)). Boo's sporting a package that needed to be delivered to a larger dog as well...what's up with that??? So far the best thing I can come up with concerning this little (or should I say, "unconventually bigger than expected") scenario is to keep those "lovers" at bay... I'm even thinking of getting a permanent annulment with those two and perhaps introducing him to a new and less complicated lifestyle...2 new companions in his "crib" without any history... :P |
You are HILARIOUS! |
I was thinking this was going to be about a yorkie who got a hold of someone's lipstick. I figured they were gonna ask if they needed to go to the vet. Instead we're talking K-Y Jelly. Am I on the right site? |
LOL, ok, like the others say keep the hairs cut short and that should help, that happens often in dogs that had been bred, it happen to my Harrison a few times, nothing that a drop of KY jelly and a bit of help could not fix.. My new stud is only 7 months old and he is already being fresh with his beloved lamp chop stuffed toy that he sleeps with since he was 8 weeks... is hillarious.. hugs, |

they did clip the hair around his 'area'. It doesnt seem to be triggered by him getting excited, I've not seen him humping things. The lipstick is just 'out'. He licks it a little but not excessively and I'm sure through the shelter would be the cheapest I could find the surgery (not sure what this would entail either). I'm worried maybe the skin is rolling back because he is a bit of an older guy and maybe the skin is not what it used to be. I'm not sure, I worry either it will be hard finding some one to do this everyday or someone might say they will but eventually give up and he would end up being in pain or something. |
