Do you give yorkies a hair cut b/4 6 months? I have a niece who recently got a yorkie puppy. She was telling her vet that Charlie needed a haircut. Her vet told her to wait until he was six months old to cut his hair. He said that a haircut earlier than that would ruin his coat and leave it wiry. I have never heard of that...is this true? |
I don't believe that is true... But I wouldn't send a puppy to the groomers until it has all of its shots. |
I, too have never heard of this. I was just wondering if anyone else heard of this or if it was a true fact. |
I have never heard that but I don't think it's true. |
That sounds odd to me, too! Yorkies have constantly changing coats and I don't see how a haircut would "ruin" it. My boy had his first haircut at 3 months and I just groomed him today, he just turned 6 months. |
I have been trimming Teeka's hair for a couple of months. She is about 5 months and her hair isn't wirey at all. It is really soft and silky! I just thought it an odd comment coming from a vet as I never heard of such a thing! :aimeeyork |
I would never send a young puppy to a groomer but more for safely reasons than because it would hurt the coat. Why would your niece want to cut a puppy coat anyway? Sometimes an older puppy may have some crazy hair to deal with but a young one usually still has shorter hair. I didn't take Gracie to a groomer until she was 6 months and they just trimmed her butt, feet and a little around her face. The next time they really messed her up though. Cutting a puppy coat will not do anything to change what the adult coat will be. You do want to wait until all the shots are done and the puppy is ready to be placed in the hands of a groomer. I really don't think a puppy that is much under 6 months needs a real hair cut. |
Charlie has a lot of hair and he is only 3 months! She did end up trimming the hair out of his eyes so he could see! And yes, I agree that he needs to get all of his shots before seeing a groomer. Thanks for the input! :) |
Have never heard of that took sammi to groomers for a haircut at 4 months and his hair now is so soft and shiny i love it, the only time i wouldnt take a dog to groomers is before they have had all their shots, otherwise go ahead just make sure you pick a good groomer :) |
