Is she a Blue Born? 4 Attachment(s) I have been secretly worrying about Angel. I have read so many horror stories about the health problems blue borns can have. When we first got Angel we thought she was a really light chocolate color, but as she is getting older she looks more bluish grey to us. Even looking back at her pics when she first came home she looks more blue. The vet even listed her as blue and tan at her first visit. I have read their noses are usually a blue color also but her's is brown. I was hoping maybe you could help me solve this mystery. We worry about something going wrong with her everyday, but so far she has been really healthy. She is 17 weeks old now and weighs in at 1.9 lbs. Here are a variety of pics of her. |

I am glad you asked this because I am confused about the whole blue thing too, Guinness was blank and tan but now his CKC papers and vet have him listed as blue and tan. |
Im not sure. Im pretty new I have only had my yorkie about 4 months. I am commenting to help push your post up. Good Luck and I hope someone can help you. |
What a cutie she is - love that face:D I have no expertise in this area, but I know that others on YT do and I'm sure they will come forth with their knowledge and experiences :) |
I think your Yorkie may be a chocolate Yorkie. We have many threads about Blue Born. I do not think your Yorkie is that. When a Yorkie is Blue Born he is born gray with light tan markings, their eyes are either green or blue. This is a color mutation. As they mature they often turn white. Normal Yorkies are often referred to as Blue and Gold, Blue and Tan. For a mature Yorkie the preferred color is when the black fur turns into a deep steel blue, grey color and the tan is golden cream tan. Check out our YT library for more information. Also check out Snow Blue Yorkies on the web for more color information. http://snowblueyorkies.com/ |
I agree with Teresa. I am by no means an expert but the blue borns that I have seen have either green or blue eyes. She is such a cutie:) |
If she were blue she would have been blue when she was born and stood out from the rest of the litter. It is common for a normal yorkie to turn blue as an adult |
Hi and welcome! As an owner of a true "blue born", I do NOT think she is a blue. If you go to my albums, there are a lot of photos of Mack Brown, my blue. Everyone I have seen have blue eyes as a pup. Mack's later turned green. They also have gray noses and paws. The white Yorkie in my avatar is Mack. I would quit worrying! You have a beautiful baby!! |

Thank you everybody. 4 Attachment(s) Thank you everybody for answering my question. I came across these pics from the breeder today of Angel and the other pups while she was still with the breeder. |
Is she the top left one? Because I may eat my words... That does look like a blue. What color are her eyes? Do chocolates run in her line? Is her hair normal? Or is it shorter in places? |

I would think she is a blue.... Did you look at my albums? |
If she is a blue, you need to contact your breeder immediately! Neither of her parents should ever be bred again! She seems like maybe she doesnt have all the classic characteristics of a true blue. But, she sure looks silver in that litter picture. Her future will be unknown as it is to all blues. She could lose all of her hair, have skin problems, or numerous other issues. My blue, Mack, has been very fortunate. He still has all of his hair and does not have health issues. My vet does think he has a very low immune system as he contracted parvo when he was 9 months old even though he had 5 rounds of puppy shots. We are very careful with him as far as exposing him to germs. He mainly just stays home.... I wish you the best and hope you have as good of luck as we have had. Mack will be 2 in February. I have only been able to locate 3 other blues that have lived this long. We treasure him each and everyday we get to spend with him! |

Keep me posted! |
I will. Thank you |
Kendra E, Do you have any new pics of Mack. I didn't see any in your albums. How much does he weigh full grown now. Angel has been holding on to 1.9 lbs for about 3 weeks now. She is 17 weeks old. |
He is about 5-6 lbs now. perfect size. He is a little sweetheart....I will try and send you some pics. He looks the same as my avatar pic though! |
2 Attachment(s) Here is a pic from valentines day and also one from August....Isnt he a sweetheart? :p Notice his gray little nose and light colored eyes....typical blue born traits... |
They are both super adorable. We have accepted the fact she is a blue born and have decided we would just be thankful for everyday God gives us with her. Her full brother is traditional and her half sister is also traditional. They are all 17 weeks. She was the only one who was that color. |
And that's exactly what we decided to do... Accept the fact and be grateful for each and everyday! I would get her 2-3 extra rounds of puppy shots. Be careful exposing her to sun and germs at pet stores, vet office, parks, etc. make sure you contact the breeder and make them aware!! They cannot breed this pair again!! If you ever have any questions, feel free to pm me anytime! I have such a soft spot in my heart for these babies. Unfortunately, most I have been asked about haven't made it. But there are 2 others that occasionally come to Yt that had blues about 6-8 months ago. Last I heard, they were still making it. One had lost most of her hair but otherwise was in good health! I will be praying for your baby!! |
Hi I am not very familiar with blue borns, but just have 2 questions. Is the breeder aware of blue born? Have you informed them? |
