Kalisi goes to the vet and changes vets... Oh and weighs.... YAY 2.2lbs..at 15 wks... She got to go to the vet for her shots, but sadly mommy had to cut up with the mean rude people...:p I took her records from the breeder and explained to them which shots she needed as the breeder told me and even told them we were concerned about over vaccinating her because of her size. Well the lil lady at the desk looked me up and down and says " I have a TEACUP at home and he gets everything and does fine"..... Now you all know how us edjumacted (lol educated) owners hate that word. So I politely said "oh a teacup really, just one, I have an entire set in my cupboard". Ohhhhh if looks could kill lol.... So she tells the other girl that Kalisi will have to start her puppy shots over, since the breeder missed some . I guess the younger lady read my " not unless you have another puppy named Kalisi" look and went and asked the Vet which shots... I think he overheard the exchange and sent her out to say 3rd set. Ok great that's what we wanted. So it smelled funny to me and I was frantic, that nobody touch me and that we not touch anything....Poor Samuel, mom kept whipping out the hand sanitizer:rolleyes: . Well we head in the room and I put Kalisi's blanket on the counter to sit her on it and turned to get her out the carrier and the vet snatches the blanket and tosses it ACROSS the room onto another counter . I said "oh I'm sorry if that was in your way, you could have told me and I would have moved it for you" his reply "oh no problem lets get you a shot and get you out of here" all the while looking and talking to Kalisi. So I held my breath counted to 10 and no kidding by the time I was done so was he... .... So I patiently wipe Kalisi's feet before pacing her back in her carrier, took my time adjusting her bow, straightening her dress etc lol.... Went to the counter to check out and the girl had the nerve to ask me if I would like to buy her heartworm and flea preventive now... I looked at her raised both eyebrows all the while Squirting more hand sanitizer on Sam and said um no. She looks "shocked" then said ok we will see her back in a month... My look said "yeah when hell freezes over" paid and left! Googled another vet called and spoke to a very sweet young lady took Kalisi straight there. They looked at her records and said " oh we completely agree with what you and the breeder said about her shots" .... What you mean I was right lol..... They started her on heartworm and flea preventive etc, set her up for her next appt.. Talked to me about her spay and microchipping and printed out the cost so that I could be prepared (even though that's 3 months away). I paid $25 at the first place for her shots.... The new place I will pay $90... But I walked out happy and satisfied oh and they didn't charge me a dime, she said you don't owe us anything! You've been through enough and so has Kalisi . Wow I'm sold, oh and did I mention the place smelled as clean as my home and looked it also. Bottom line, I'd rather pay more and know she is taken care of than go cheap and be scared for her safety and health as well as ours! |
I'm so proud of you for standing up for what you believed in. Now, Kalisi has an awesome new vet to love on her :) |
And that is why after letting DH take Guinness to the vet I get a call 5 min's after his appointment and him telling me "MY PUPPY is not going back to that place!" And he then managed to find the single most ex's pensive vet in Jacksonville I think haha |
You did the right thing! I love my vet, but some of the receptionists I don't love so well. But the actual vet is awesome so I put up with them and I am sure they say the same about me. So my baby is scheduled to get her spay Friday. I had talked to the vet about it and she assured me I could do whatever I was most comfortable with on that day. When I made the appointment my vet was out on maternity leave so I put it off until she was back. Then when I talked to the receptionist she said I was to drop her off between 7 and 8. I said...drop her off? no way am I dropping my baby off. I explained that I would bring her at 7, she would stay with me until they did the blood work at which time they would return her to me untiil the ran the tests and were ready for the actual surgery at which time I would hand her back over to them but would be waiting in the waiting room throughout the surgery and until she was ready to come home that night. The poor receptionist didn't know what to do with that comment so she said, "that is not how we normally do it", to which I responded. "would you take your 2 year old child to the hospital, drop them off in a crib and leave them there all day without a second thought"? she then asked to put me on hold to talk to the vet. When she came back she was all grumpy and said the vet said it was okay for me to wait, but it could be a very long wait and again they don't normally do that. I informed her I was very prepared to sit in their waiting room all day and I would not leave my baby in such a scary place all by herself all day long waiting for surgery without me. It was actually very funny to me at the end of the call and I am sure they were all talking about me but I don't give a damn, she is my baby and I am paying the bill so I have every right to tell them what I will and won't do! We have to protect our babies! |
Wow! Very impressive! You go Girl! Are you available for next month one day? (JK) So glad you nipped that vaccine action in the bud! Kudos to you! I was dying reading how you wiped her feet to go back in her kennel, straightened her dress and bow, etc! Just ROTFLMBO! Still OTF! |
Go ahead Momma Tracy! I too loved the part about straightening her bow and dress LOL I am glad you found another vet you are comfortable with it's so important for us and our babies. |

[QUOTE=Zoejane;4065599] I agree, if I'm paying you to provide a service for me, then it's pretty much going to be done my way or we just won't be doing it! |

I am so glad you did that. So many people just listen to them and don't pay attention. Sometimes it is worth paying a little more for peace of mind |
Oh yes and before we walked into the house I took off Sammie's shoes and wiped them off with the Clorox wipes from the car and did my shoes as well. Her carrier never touched ground or counter it was on my shoulder. Then once I got my babies settled in I went to the car and wiped the inside including gas and brake petals down with the Clorox wipes... I guess you could say I'm a little bit anal about germs, but I can't help it. |

BRAVO!!!!!!!! You did great:D I think you were very smart to whip out the Clorox wipes and clean up everyone's shoes and the car. You never know what could be lurking on the floor at a vet's office that doesn't seem to be very clean:eek: Our vet's office is very clean but my girls never touch the floor there, and I put a blanket down on the exam table (besides being afraid of germs, it's cold too!). They look at me a little sideways, but who cares:laugh: |
You go mama!!!! While vacs have their place I refuse lepto and others due to the concerns as well combo shot issues. I think weather anyone agrees with your choices or not its not their place to use misinformation to push you into it. I love Confessions of a Vaccine Junkie and my Vet has read it now she doesn't give combo shots and asidand doesn't use pressure tactics either, she just gives me information handouts in a little paper booklet abd discusses concerns risks on both sides and gives her opinion but respects mine. I pay 3x as much at this vet...if nothing else because of how she approaches and handles my dogs she's worth every penny. I feel I should tip her for the added bonus of how she handles me lol. |
