Oh No! Hey YT, I think I figured out why he has been bitting his butt so much. Today when I give him his daily brushing, I found fleas around his butt and back legs. It really surprised me though because he has been bitting for about 4 days now and this is the first time I saw the fleas. I feel so dirty and itchy knowing that we have fleas in our house. Since Julius and I never had a flea issue, I dont know how to even proceed. He is on a every 3 month does of flea and tick meds, but due to his itching, I was 1 week off from applying a new dose. ANy suggestions that anyone can give me will be much appreciated. Does this warrant a trip to the vet, or can I try to handle the situation myself?? |
I would put him back on the flea meds and I would vacuum the floors and rugs and make sure you empty it after |
if you go to lowes they have this stuff in a blue bottle called bayer.....i believe is the spelling. it is safe ...and i would spray all your the baseboards of your house every crack and hidden areas... you can even use it on the bedding but i would suggest washing all his stuff that can be washed. apply after vacumming everything. then spray..its in the section where you get bug sprays and such. the vet told me to do the flea apps every three weeks if needed. hope that helps. |
change change his medication my neighbors have cats andthey carry fleas into my yard which is 3 acres. My standard poodle runs the whole yard and gets the fleas and bring them into my yorkie!!! my vet put both dogs on comfortis pills once a month--NO MORE FLEAS.:) |

Fleas tend to hang out in certain areas of the body. The back end is a popular place. You need to vacuum your home really well including under and in your furniture. Fleas can lay thousands of eggs in and under your furniture and carpeting. You still need to vacuum bare floors as they will lay eggs there and along the edges of the walls as well. Put moth balls in your vacuum bag or dirt holder to kill any eggs that may be left over after emptying outside. Wash any bedding. I'm not sure what flea medication you are using but it is best to use a brand recommended by a vet. You don't have to buy from the vet but make sure it is an approved brand. There are a lot of cheap imitations out there that are harmful and do not work to kill fleas and the eggs. When you return from taking your dog outside take a flea comb and run it through his fur to catch any bugs he may have picked up while outside. Flush them or put them in a bowl of soapy water to kill them. |
