I think it has more to do with the dog and how your training then whether they are a boy or girl. |
I have a boy- he is 5 and still has accidents!! |
Our boy was surprisingly easy to train using close monitoring and lots of positive reinforcement. He learned early on that going outside earned him treats - eventually he started asking to go out, no treat required. Marking behavior was tougher to deal with, but not a problem after he was neutered. I recommend patience, consistency and positive reinforcement - I 'm sure you both will do fine :) |

Oh and I haven't noticed a difference between the sexes in my limited experience (2 Yorkie girls that I was close to and our own boy). Sorry I didn 't really answer the question previously :rolleyes: |
Laddy was very easy to train. He was pad trained at 10 weeks and outside at 14. I too think it just depends on the dog. |
I agree with what many others have said... I have a boy and a girl. I think the girl was easier to train, but it could have had a lot to do with her bigger brother showing her the ropes :) |
I agree that it really is more about the individual dog. Max was effortless to train. Teddy came to us at 8 months fully outdoor trained by his breeder. They are full brothers, so maybe it is in their genes to be easy in this department. :) |

I've only had male dogs- my GSP was trained when we brought him home so I can't count him but Blazer has been pretty easy to train, overall. I'm a SAHM though so I think that makes it easier for me- I'm always here and can be really consistant. It worked for my female children (all potty trained before age 2) so I use the same idea for the dog. LOL! Keep them close, watch for signals, praise like crazy for success, and just generally be aware and proactive. |
my girl does leave mess around but not much has she use to do it. but she use the post pad in the batheroom. but the thing she does she goes in the bathroom when anyone of us 2 goes to the bathroom. she just think she has to go. sometime she does but not all the time. we just think it so cute she does that. |
I have always had a doggie door and I cant remember getting my dogs to use it ever being an issue. HOWEVER, my dogs will mark on my husbands recliner when they are mad or feel like we have not spent a enough time with them - which is rare! If we get home on Fridays from work and have to leave again shortly after, they get mad and I cant blame them. They have been alone all day and it makes them mad when their needs arent met and they have their way of telling us. They have me trained now! lol |
I definitely agree that it depends on the dog and also how well your training them. I didn't potty train Geno as hard as I did with our girl. Our girl knows to go onto the pad but she still has a few accidents here and there which is expected cause she's only 6 months old exactly today lol And the accidents are usually due to the pad needing changed. She'll go potty right next to the pad in these cases. Geno is 1 yr 6 months old exactly today and he marks every where and goes wherever. It's really annoying but the only one I can blame is myself for not being as consistent with it as I am with Mia. Plus Mia was very easy to train and caught on to pad training incredibly well. When I first got Geno, potty training him became a nightmare and I started to just give up. I don't think it has anything to do with his gender though. More so his stubborn temperment cause he is quite smart. Just last night, I threatened both of them with the crate at bedtime cause they both wouldn't calm down and go to bed. Geno took quickly to this threat and ran onto the bed and laid down right on top of me. lol |
fancy can be hard at time on things. but she wasn't that bad. at time we think she going backwards on us on few things. I didn't think that boys was any hader just that one lady had to tell my aunt that. but at time I think people don't want her to have one. |
1 Attachment(s) I have 2 boys & they were easier to train than the girls. I use a water bottle wrapped in pee pad as a marker for the boys. Didn't even have to teach them to go there, they just naturally used it. 'ohhh dat's my spot' :D Attachment 377605 I had an issue w/the girls going on the edge & the bottom of the pee pad would get wet along w/the bathroom floor. That drove me bonkers loll! What fixed the problem was simply making the pee area larger. Oh & after using washable pee pads, we hardly had any accidents...but did have to remove all rugs, they can't tell the difference! |

I never thought of the pickle jar befere. I have tryed the water on here for the bitting but that didn't stop here. she did stop for a while but now she started to go back to doing the bitting of my feet for some reason. |

BTW, intresting tidbit- girls can be markers too, I saw one the other day that even lifted her leg! I think its all about the individual and how much time you put into training. |
YES and NO. I mean shucks, it depends on the Yorkie. My little Abba is going on 2 and he does not go in the house (even on pee-pads). He was the easiest Yorkie I ever house trained. Rubin is going on ten years old and will still pee on anything new that is on the floor. He also pees on my quilt if I leave the gate to my bedroom unlatched. So hence my answer, Yes and No. |
at time I think she was harder to train. but she starting to listen a lot more but she does have her days. and she a 1 year and 3months |
Depends on the dog, Keno was completely house trained by 5 months, I have never had any other dog house trained that fast. Have had many breeds of dogs and equal female to male in numbers. Keno was the easiest. |
