brand new! 1st post! pics and questions Hi. I recently got a new yorkshire terrier 9 months old for free because his previous owners were too busy to take care of it. :aimeeyork I used to own cats for longest time so this is all new to me. I noticed he has a furry silvery fur on top of his head and one of his ears is folded down. Is this normal? I thought they are supposed to have tan heads...?? I also noticed he walks diagonally on walks and he has a slight bump in his lower spine. Not sure if you can tell by the pics or if I am just imagining things. I heard the back should be straight and there is definitely a slight curve. Should I be concerned? I did read in this forum that other dogs have same concerns. I love my new dog! So smart and active! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...1/IMG_4881.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...1/IMG_4926.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...1/IMG_4994.jpg |
She is a cutie. He looks fine. I would take him to a vet to get a check up. Make sure his shots are up to date. And ask about the bump. |
welcome, a very cute pup. i would suggest a vet visit for a complete check just to make sure everything is ok.. |
Hello and welcome from the UK! :) :wavey: Your Littlie looks fine from over here!!!!! But if you have any concerns whatsoever, it's best to get your vet to look him over, if only to ease your mind :) Oh, and when we got Harry :aimeeyork at 3 months, he was totally black + tan....I know the sun was shining, but have a look at him now.... :D. They do keep changing colour, and apart from hair-dye, there's not much we can do about it! ;) Congratulations, and look forward to getting to know you. Sally + Harry x |
What a cute pup. Welcome to Yt |
Oh my goodness! Adorable! Love the one ear up, one ear down...you can tell he has a ton of personality :) I'd definitely ask the vet about the diagonal walking and the bump on the spine, as others have suggested...keep us updated! YT is a great community with lots of fantastic resources. Welcome! |
I agree with the other probably should go to the vet for checkup. But what a cutie |
Welcome!! your baby is so cute!!! he looks much like my Charlie, Charlies ears are larger than most yorkies I see and his too flip down, He moves them like antennas LOL when you talk to him he has just 1 ear that he will raise up . Charlie is silver on his tan on his face head and belly but his back and tail are a dark silver gray I cant tell a bump but a visit to the vet should be done if you dont know anything about his health. :) |
Welcome to YorkieTalk! Whenever you get a new pup/dog even if its from the best breeder it needs to get checked out by a vet asap and that will be a great place to ask your questions about his spine and any other health questions you have. Also make sure to have him on a heart worm prevention. Cute little guy. |
Your little one is adorable:D I think the "bump" on his back that you speak of is just what is known as a "roached" back. My Luna's back is like that too. So far it hasn't caused her any issues, it's just a fault that would make them unsuitable for showing, along with the coat colors being a bit off. Luna came from a pet store, and is pretty poorly bred, crooked teeth/bite, the roached back, silvery colored coat, etc. but that doesn't make her any less loveable:love: Your baby appears to have very long back legs, which could be why his back is curved like that. A vet checkup would be very smart, just to get a baseline on his health, and to make sure that he is in good condition. What a cutie:D!!!!!! |
Very cute! |
so cute , looks like my Sassy, Congratulations |
Maggies hair on top of her went from black to greyish to finally what we call blond. It probably took about a year to finish changing. She is a yorkiepoo but her coloring is yorkie. You should have the hair on your guy's ears shaved, I think the groomers call it tipped?? That might help it stand up. He is young so the little extra weight might be weighing it down a little. Can't hurt to try. My neighbor has a yorkie with a humped back. His back is highest in the center but he is fine. It looks like yours might just have tall back legs. You should always get a new pet checked by a vet. Plus, if you ever have an emergency they will then be willing to take you because you won't be a "new" patient. |
Your dog is so cute! He looks a little like my Copper. I don't know anything about the back thing....just loved the pictures so I had to comment. Copper is the only yorkie I have ever owned and I am in love. I wish you the best! |
thanks~ |
