Yet another little one attacked and killed I feel so bad for my neighbor. She had two gorgeous well groomed loved Pomeranians that she walked every morning. My other neighbor across the street had two huge male dogs. They always let them run so we gave them a gate, leash and collars for them and TOLD them to use them. Actually, where we live does not allow dogs over 20 pounds but the owner will let you have them if they are taken care of. About 9 days ago, the Pom lady was walking her dogs by my house and one of the big dogs attacked one of the little dogs. After 9 days at the vet, she finally had to put the Pom to sleep. It was too badly injured to survive. My DH and I are almost always home and I am sure we would have heard the attack but we did not. The owner of the lab mix said he would not pay the vet bills. It brakes my heart. She loves and cares for her babies as we do. I have never seen dogs as well groomed outside of the show ring. Now, one is gone forever. The big dogs are gone now. I have always been afraid they would attack my guys (only 2 of my 6 go out on a leash to pee, the other ones use peepee pads). Since other people around here let their dogs run, big and small, we do NOT walk the dogs around here. My heart breaks for my friend. She is going to sue the owner of the big dog. I told her she could also probably sue the owner of our mobile home park for letting the big dogs live on the property against the rules although I understand her not wanting to do that. She owns her home like us and moving it is very expensive. Please PRAY for her that her heart will heal. I can't imagine what she has gone through the last 9 days. When I see the idiots across the street, I want to go over and let them have it. My DH won't let me which is probably for the better. RIP little one. Louise |
That is so sad, the owner should pay big time....RIP little one |
How heart-breaking. :( It always makes me so sad when I hear stories like this...how defenseless our little guys are when it comes to these little guys and how the owners of the big dogs just don't pay attention or even care. I can't believe he even refused to pay the vet bills! RIP to the little one. <3 |
What a terrible thing for such a tiny little creature to be savagely attacked by such big, wild dogs and then to lose its battle for life. It's tragic and heartbreaking. I know your sweet neighbor has been through hell these 9 days and witnessing something like that has got to be life-changing. She may never be the same. I pray she does get some relief and those people are dealt with appropriately for not following the rules and for not taking the proper precautions in keeping people and animals safe from dangerous dogs. The other day I was walking Tibbe through a cross-alley at the end of the block and 2 huge dogs on the other side of the tall wooden fence from a house on the next block came barking wildly and bouncing off the fence. Tibbe jumped and then lunged toward the fence from our side, barking right back. The two dogs became enraged, trying to get through it. Thing is, that fence was moving when those big dogs would hit against it with such force!!! I could see their outlines through the space between the slats of wood and see a glimpse of huge forms, flashes of big white teeth! It was scary the amount of anger and force behind that fence and you could sense the absolute power of those giant dogs! I hurried and turned back, walking fast away from that yard! It is frightening how big and powerful large dogs can be when sufficiently riled. I can only imagine what would have happened if they had found their way out of that yard and onto Tibbe. I had my big, button-open umbrella with me to whoosh open should they somehow escape and my cell phone but wow, the power of that rage was pretty overwhelming. No doubt outside their yard and with a human standing up to them with an open umbrella between us, a lot of that proprietorial attitude would likely subside, but if they were the kind who are a tad over over the edge with hardened or well-developed prey drive as some dogs are, it might have been a horrible situation. You just never know what will happen around dogs, big or little, but the big ones sure can scare you and of course, often can and do great and permanent damage if they decide to attack. I sure wish owners of them would take better care to keep others safe from them and their penalties severe when they don't. |
I feel for your friend to go through something so horrific. I am so sorry for her loss. I can not believe that the person would not pay the bills.cshe should speak to the mobile home park and let them know what happen and see what they are going to do about it. They should get involved. Rest in peace little Pom |
We have seen this sort of post often. Big dog running loose kills small dog. The law varies depending where you live. Sadly nothing will bring her darling baby back, thank you for being her friend during this horrific time. |
I am glad your friend is suing. Even though nothing will make your friend feel better or bring back that poor little dog I hope that winning the suit will help to make other dog owners aware of what could happen if they do not properly restrain their animals. With so many people seemingly ignorant of how to properly care for animals it is just frighting the number of people that continue to get more pets that they abuse and/or neglect. I do think the owner of the park is also partly liable for your friend's tragic loss. Some of my family think I am over protective of Gracie but with people being the way they are and dogs being bred that are less than stable I am not going to wait and see if a dog is safe around my little girl. The people and the dog have to prove to me that they are trustworthy enough to be near her. |
Couldn't agree with all of this more. BTW, what kind of person refuses to pay the medical bills of a little dog their own dog KILLED without any provocation while off leash and off their owner's property??????? |
Your poor neighbor! RIP little doggie. You even went out of your way and provided the big dog's owner with the means to control their dogs and they still failed to do so. Sadly, this kind of attitude is prevalent among many dog owners and it is the reason I cannot walk my boys together in our own neighborhood or most local parks. Too many loose dogs. Every day, I have to drive my boys somewhere to walk. Even then, I am concerned about possible strays. |
So sorry RIP little one |

Im so sorry for your friends loss BiewerYorkie. Unfortunately we have the same problem with so many dogs running lose in the neighborhood and in the parks. Sometimes we have to drive from park to park just to find one that looks safe. I always take a stroller with me so I can get them away quickly if i have to. I also carry a taser now. Its a shame there are so many irresponsible dog owners. |
