fighting siblings??? help please
 

hi to everyone who owns a wee yorkie xx

im going to keep this brief, but have lots to say and ask about this topic, i just hope that i can find a solution to this problem (with your help)

i have 2 yorkies, (sisters (holly and molly)) aged 4 yrs old. ive had them since they were old enough to leave mum. they have never been apart and have always got on well together (ok, the occasional fight but nothing too serious) until recently they have become more and more aggressive toward each other, its like they are fighting to the death now, cut legs, stitches below the eyes and lots of blood everywhere. i really dont understand whats happening between them. and its happening more and more frequently. i dont know if its a jealousy thing. one of them (molly) appears to be the boss. i have been advised to rehome one of them but this seems to be really harsh. 90% of the time they are fine with each other. they have not been spayed and my partner also has a yorkie who comes with her to see me. he is a little dog (who has been neutered). they all get on really well together but as soon as someone comes into my home, thats when they start.. (only holly and molly). ok thats enough to start with. has anyone got any suggestions???

Welcome to Yorkie Talk. I would start with having the girls spayed. It isn't a behavior cure all, but I would do it for long term health reasons and the chance it could help with the fighting.

Is the fighting always triggered by specific things like guests in the house? If you can identify the triggers, that is half of the battle. Separate the girls when visitors come, or leash them and work on training to greet visitors. Training tips can be found on YouTube. I prefer positive reinforcement training methods.

If the girls are fighting when they are not supervised, I would separate them for safety.

only one female can be the alpha female, since they are both not spayed they are fighting for that position, spaying them will help a lot with the problem. I am a breeder and i know a thing or two about female rivalry . is a common thing in breeding females.. spaying will help some...

Unspayed females put together is a formula for trouble...a disaster just waiting to happen! You always hear how males fight and are so aggressive....they have NOTHING on unspayed females!! Just like humans, when two unspayed females are in the same space, they are immediately in competition with each other....one has to establish herself as Alpha, and they will fight viciously to do that. If you had 3 or more unspayed females, the two top females would get into it, and then the first one that went down, the rest of the pack would also tear into her! Hopefully, getting them spayed will help this situation you find yourself in!
