Travelling with my Yorkie Has anyone got any experience of travelling with their Yorkie from Denver USA to Manchester UK with United Airlines? We travelled over to the US with British Airways from Heathrow to Denver which was long enough, but have to travel back with United as they deal with PBS at Manchester. Worried about the amount of time my Yorkie, Cukii, will be in the hold and also because she is very fussy, the amount of time she will refuse to eat or drink without me. She is very precious to me and I am so very worried that she may not eat or drink at all for the whole journey. Any advice would be gratefully received. Thanks. :aimeeyork |

I would definitely not fly her in cargo. She should definitely fly in the cabin with you. |
They will not allow her to fly in the cabin with us! They won't even allow her to fly internally in the USA with us and then go in the hold to Manchester UK.:mad: UK authorities will not allow animals to go through as passengers once they arrive at a UK airport. |
Hmm ask if they allow emotional support animals... Please do not judge me or think ill of what I am about to say BUT Guinness has a card stating he is an ESA because that means he gets to fly free while sitting in my lap don't even have to use my carrier. My brain tumor does cause me panic attacks but having him with me and around people that could hurt him actually causes me an attack instead of helping but at least I know he is safe with me and due to the Internet and ways to get around anything it is kinda easy to get a card for your pet or if you have a DR you trust they can write the letter saying he is for emotional support. |
I would really be concerned about the transfers, and the weather this time of year in the cargo hold...it could be darn cold and damp. Google airline dogs in cargo hold incidents and that'll change your mind right there! |
I could never fly my pet cargo ever there are so many dogs that get lost and I just don't think that is any place a dog let a lone a small yorkie because they could even get stolen. |
Yorkie travel She travelled over to Denver in March and it went without any hitches. The BA staff were fantastic and treated her so so well. The stewardesses gave me messages from the pilot about the area she was in being heated and she was comfortable when loaded etc. Just the fact that to return to the UK we are not able to travel with BA directly from Denver, thus making the flight excessively long. I have heard the horror stories and believe me if there was any other way to get her back to the UK, I would not hesitate; however my husband's job requires that we relocate back to the UK now and there is absolutely no way I would not take her back with us. She is part of our family and dearly loved. |
If there was any other way of getting her back to the UK, then we would use it. I would love for her to be with us on the plane, however airlines have rules and they won't bend at all. She was fine on the way out as the BA staff were first rate. I was a nervous wreck, but the stewards on the plane checked with the pilot that the hold was heated and that she was happy on loading and they were superb on landing. She suffered no ill effects at all. PBS who did all the arrangements were also superb, but returning from America we have to use United Airlines and therefore an indirect flight using PBS on entry. If only the UK authorities would let animals through the passenger entry then there would not be a problem. My husband's job forces the relocation and I will not return without Cukii; she is part of our family. We just have to abide by the regulations. |
