Should I be concerned!? Took Harley to Petsmart today for a nail trim, he refuses to let me near him with mine so I have to have 2 workers there do it! Anyways while I was there I decided to weigh Harley , when I first got him he weighed 5.2 pounds... Today he was 4.3 pounds. I Answered in the food poll about how much I feed him, we feed him 1/4 cup in the am, and half the time he won't eat so I pick it up so our other dog won't eat it (he's on a diet at 171 pounds lol) and I put the food down again at nigh ime a d he will eat it then. Sometimes he scarfs down the first meal, so he gets another quarter cup at night, other times its just 1/4 cup a day.... He doesn't act hungry and when h is hungry he will eat his meals. He gets a few treats thru out the day.... The vet says he is healthy, although he's never heard of a biewer yorkie so he did sons reading on them while we were in the room and he says he appears healthy and happy....... I just dot know its been 2 months I believe that we've had him... |
What food are you feeding him? |
We feed him canidae all life stages |
I would go off the vet's scale. Even then, make sure it's the same scale. The last time we were at the vet, they had me put Maci on the big scale and it only weighed her at 3.2lbs! When they put her on the cat scale, she came in at 4.6lbs, which is accurate. |
Did the vet make any recommendations about food? Also have you thought about trying a different food to see if he was more interested in it? One pound in two months seems like a lot. Did the vet do any testing at all? |
The vet isn't concerned at all, and he likes the food because his tail wags and he does a happy dance when we feed him,it's just sometimes he eats just a few bites, sometimes all of it. The people who had him before fed him royals canin I think that's how it's spelled, on the yorkie line they have And he would refuse to eat it , he wanted what his brother was eating |
Blazer didn't really eat today, either. I figure its just growth spurts and the like. |
Just like with humans all scales can be different and it depends what time of the day you weigh him and such. If he seems smaller then maybe you need to go weigh him at the vets office and talk to the vet. |
More important than the scale is how Harley's body looks. You should be able to feel his ribs easily, he should have a visible waist when looking down at his back, and a nice tuck (tummy area higher than chest when looking from the side). I wouldn't worry unless his ribs are protruding. |
Ok, I went to the vets today hen I went to puck my daughter up from my moms ( love my vet that's open 7 days a week!) they weighed him in the same room and he is 4.2 on their scale, vet wasn't concerned , he looks healthy and you can't feel his ribs with out pushing in a little, so they aren't protruding out, he said he is probably more active since I'm a stay at home mo and he has play, ayes here, and his previous owner had him kennel end 8-10 hours a day so he is just burning more calories the before. The vet said not to change his food and just keep feeding twice a day with snacks and recheck weight in 2 weeks to see if he is staying the same weight |

I am glad the vet gave you piece of mind. |
I'm glad you talked to your vet. I'm sure he's fine and is just getting more exercise than he was. |
