My stupid question of the day..... I know I have started too many threads lately BUT after reading in the sick topic area and knowing my little guy has been throwing up acid a lot lately I become paranoid and made the husband take him in for lab work... So they sent him home with Pepcid and an container for me to take some wee wee back in to the office.... Umm here comes the stupid question haha how in the heck do I get my dog to pee in a jar???? Lol just chase around the yard and try to catch it??? :confused::confused::confused: :rolleyes: |
I know right?! I heard to turn a pee pad upside down and then try to pour it in the jar. But if your dog doesn't go on pads, he'll be like WTF? Let me out! sorry, I don't know how to help you. |
I had to do that once with my female lab and caught some in a pan when she went not sure that would work with a yorkie though |
I could see this becoming a fun new game for him since he picks up things fast.... Her mom catch this :p |

I read on here once of someone using a plastic ladle when the pup squatted to urinate. Thought that was pretty kool. Stored that in my memory for future reference...lol Hope it helps. |
I was just going to say a ladle lol that is what my vet told me to do. It works great as he just starts to pee stick it under him. It makes things so much easier to get it in the jar. |
Gosh you would think some enterprising pet supply company would have made a little adjustable booty harness thing to fit around the hips of the small dogs with a little rubber receptacle to fit over the penis or urethra and charge a fortune for it. Mom puts in on doggie when he asks to go outside and you do fasten it on him - and there he stands - frozen, refusing to move in that thing! $75.00 later and your dog is standing there like a stone statue and when you try to take it back later, they read you the old health code statement about not accepting returns on that type of equipment. As for me, I don't think I could get urine from Tibbe. He stops going if you approach him when peeing. I'd have to have the vet's office do it. |
Are you ising a raised feeder? Anyways...wear gloves and goodluck...unless you are using a potty mat with a grate uh awkward! Princess got cathetered once...glad it was done that way...hmmm can you put a "napkin" in a belly band and ring it out how much do they need? |

My vet recommended a soup ladle or a pie tin. I've only had to do this with a female dog and it was pretty easy. I took her out in the back yard and followed her around. When she squatted, I just put it under her little bottom. With a male dog, it might be harder if he lifts his leg, but with a few tries you will probably get it. Hopefully you have someplace "private" where you can do this unobserved by your neighbors. Otherwise, no one will ever want to come over to your house for soup or pie! |
I use a small measuring cup with the handle. I just snuck up behind Pixie when she squats and slip it under. With the other 2 who use pee pads I turn it over and then syringe it up. Good luck. |

For human babies there are little plastic bag things that have a stick on opening that you place over the area. I don't know why a vet would not have something similar for pets. I realize humans don't have fur but there must be a way to make it work. Seems like emergency vets would have a method that works. |
