Never Lose Hope...Microchip your pets! This is a story of Velvet from the HomeAgain Newsletter who was reunited w/her family after 5 long years: 5 Long Years Later the Phone Rings | HomeAgain Found Pet Stories Our Miniature Dachshund went missing back in 2007, after hundreds of flyers and searching for two years we finally came to the realization that our "Velvet" was lost forever. Not knowing what happened to her led to long nights thinking about her. I got a call from the Albuquerque Animal Services today and at first I thought it was a prank call. The control officer indicated they located me via the HomeAgain microchip service center and assured me it was not a prank. In total shock I asked if she was alive and the officer said "Yes, she is sitting here wagging her tail! " Wow! I went to the shelter and after verifying all the information she was released to me. Animal Services didn't realize they just found a dog missing for over 5 years. My wife didn't know and I should have video taped the reunion between them when I got home. It was so emotional! I immediately took Velvet to our vet and they were so happy too! We talked about all the missing pet posters on their wall and how they should never give up hope even after 5 YEARS! Thanks so much HomeAgain! Chip Chip Hooray! Posted By: Rod, Albuquerque, NM - 9/15/2012 Pet Name: Velvet Species: Dog Breed: Dachshund Sex: Female |
That's so awesome! I know that over the past few weeks (looking for Bengi), I've seen countless missing yorkies and all sorts of dogs and the dates are from 2009 and such. It just broke my heart every day. Some had chips so hope is always alive! |
It's amazing how Bengi was out there by himself for 3 weeks, such a brave boy! In the back of my mind, I wonder if someone had him & found out that his owners were looking for him so they dropped him off around the area he was found. In any case, he had his collar w/tag, so he was reunited w/his loving family even tho he wasn't microchipped. This makes me think that when away from home, on vaca, it's so important to also have a collar or harness w/a tag on them. |
I would have to guess that someone had that little Doxie for at least part of the time she was gone. People can take a collar with ID tags off your dog, should they find it, but they probably will never think about a microchip. Thankfully that little girl got away again and was reunited with her real owner. I agree. Never give up. |
That is a wonderful story. Make sure you chip your pup! |
