Yorkie size/Color and Dog elastic My Lola is 5 weeks old and only weights 18 oz. Is this an OK size for a 5 week old? I'll get her on 12/9 and we are excited but I'm hoping that she won't be that tiny. The breeder said that her mother is 5lbs silver color and her dad is 7lbs brown and black color and that they usually take after their dad so she should be brown and black and 5-7lbs. Is this true? And at what age can you tell what color their going to be? I really do not care about the color I do prefer brown/black color but silver is cute. I guess that Im worried about her size, I hope she won't be too small :( She was the smallest one of the litter but she was the only dog left when I went to put down a deposit. She has some gold/brown color coming out already on the top of her head that's why they think that she will be brown/black. Also, I make hairbow for my daughter and would love to make some for my Lola but was wondering where to buy dog elastic from and which ones would work best. TIA! |

It could be a proper weight for a dog that would mature at around 5lbs. It's really heard to say when they are that young. It may be that she is just not feeding as well because the other pups are crowding her out. There are many factors that effect the weight gain in that young of a puppy. Sometimes the runt can turn out to be the biggest in the litter. Did you see both parents? You must have had to make your pick when the puppies were very young. Most of the time someone will buy the smallest first. I can't tell you the number of people I have seen here on YT that were promised a 4 to 5 pound dog and ended up with 8 to 15 pound dog. If you don't know a lot about the ancestry of the dog it is very hard to speculate about the mature size. |

I think they can change colors up to a couple years old so it will be awhile before you know the color. Make sure that your pup is staying with its mom until 12 weeks because that is what is best for the pup. |

:thumbup::thumbup: Pups have growth spurts and then they sloow down. Sometimes, people looking for a "specific" type of puppy, will be told whatever they want to hear from people that have no clue what genetics are behind the two dogs they bred.....and NOT just for the AKC 3 generation pedigree! You have to go back 12-18 generations in order to get a good idea on what lines are the "construction blocks" of babies out of that dog! |
