My first yorkie! Hello everyone! :wavey: My sweet hubby is taking me to pick up our first yorkie Friday! I'm so excited! It's going to be a 6 hour drive one way to get her, but judging by all the posts on this site, it will be worth it :) |
:D Woo hoo!!! :D Congratulations on your new Little-one-to-be - it certainly will be worth the journey, I'm sure you're going to enjoy every moment of your new lives together! :) On a practical note - please ensure you're fully equipped for that long journey home. It's all strange and new for your Littlie, she/he might be nervous and sicky, even wriggly (Harry was ). A car-carrier might come in handy for you. Some wipes and towels might be worth packing, plus of course food + water + nutrical.....oh my, it's like having a newborn baby! Enjoy every moment, and please keep us posted! :) Sally + Harry :aimeeyork x |
Thank you!! :D Thanks for the advice too, I didn't even think about the possibility that the lil tyke could get car sick! I'm so glad you suggested bringing wipes. I already ordered a cute purse carrier  and tomorrow we're going to shop for food, bowls, a bed, and hopefully some really cute little clothes to keep her warm ^^ |
Congratulations on your new baby. I hope you are buying from a reputable breeder. There is a lot of good information in the "sticky" areas of each part of YT. There is also a library that you can find information in. While there are a variety of different training methods, purchasing a puppy from strong healthy stock is always the best way to start the Yorkie experience. |
Congrats! It is so wonderful. Make sure you post pics Make sure you bring paper towels, garbage bag. And a jug of water. Just in case she gets sick. Also bring a few pee pads. You are going to have to let her potty. You do not want to walk her at a rest stop. There is a lot of other dogs that have been there and they can carry diseases. |
Won't she be protected by her vaccinations 2 weeks after she's finished her puppy series, though? |
Congratulations! How exciting. Welcome to the YT forums. :D How old is your pup? And does she have a name yet? Please post some pics when you can. :) |
Oh and if she has had all her shots and last one has been over two weeks, she will be fine. :) |
Congratulations! Sonic is my first yorkie, I never thought of getting a yorkie, till I saw sonic, I don't regret getting him everytime i look at him I the more I love him he brings joy to my life. yorkies are always full of surprises, they are smart, funny, can be demanding, love to please you, talk to you in their cute little way, I could go on and on lol.. Can't wait to see your little baby |
Congrats !! :) |
1 Attachment(s) The breeder sent me this picture today. :) She calls her Pumpkin, but I'm pretty sure we'll change that lol. I'm thinking Lilly right now, but I'm going to meet her before I name her officially. Today hubby and I picked out a leash and harness and a really cute brush and comb set that has a lady bug on it and says "Little Lady" on them :D I tried finding clothes for her, but I couldn't find anything smaller than an XS (the breeder said she'd probably be around 5 pounds full grown) so I'm just going to have to make them; poor girl! Oh, and she is 14 weeks old :) |

She is a cutie. Congrats |
awwww she is soooo cute, looks like she is going to have big ears like sonic! I love big ears on yorkies |
Congratulations. She's very cute. :) |
The breeder just told me that she does all of her own vetwork..... should I be worried about this?? Should I demand that the pup see a vet before I fork over the money for her? Can a vet really tell that much about a puppy anyway without running a lot of expensive tests? |
Welcome to YT! Congrats on your new addition! :) |
Congrats! You will fall madly in love in less than 5 mins I am sure, LOL! |
If I were you I would do some additional checking on this breeder. Some breeders do some medical care but they are supposed to have the puppies seen by a vet a get a health certificate before selling. What do you know about the breeder and the kind of conditions she keeps these dogs under? Like how many does she have ? Does she breed more than one breed? If she cannot give you a reputable vet reference I would run away from this purchase. |
Congrats I agree if she gives her own shot's in pa, a vet will not see them unless they revacanate them. not to burst your bubble but I would do more checking on this person she sounds like she might be a back yard breeder. If you do get this pup make sure you take her to your vet right away. and see what health guarantee she offers'. I agree she is a cutie. Hope every thing works out in your favor. Have a safe trip. She apparently has never taken any of her dogs to the vet :/ hubby said to let this one go.... Now I feel like an idiot >.> Can I delete this thread? lol Thanks for your opinions and help |
she is a cutie, and im sure you already fell inlove.. I wonder if she will let you take her to the vet for check up before buying? wish you guys the best! |
I would tend to agree with your DH and wait till I find a better breeder. Don't feel dumb feel smart and happy you came to YT to ask :). There will be the perfect healthy furbaby out there for you. |
Please don't feel bad. This kind of thing is rampant with puppy mills and backyard breeders of pure bred dogs. The small breed dogs are all the rage right now so they seem to be every where. If you want a good healthy dog contact your local dog clubs to find a breeder they recommend. Here is a link to the AKC LA page of clubs: American Kennel Club - Club Search and Directory The clubs usually have a breeder referral contact person. Some have email addresses and some you have to write to. Take your time and check out everything. A dog should be part of your family for many years. You don't want to move too quickly when you are selecting a family member. |
You're right, thank you :) I guess I'll just have to be patient... and wade through all the scams again @_@ ugh |

Look for a breeder that you can be sure about and that will give you a health guarantee. Keep the excitement you have right now..just transfer it to looking for the right baby for you and your hubby. ;) |

You will also need a harness (not collar) and leash. Tiny harnesses can be found in the ferret or kitty section of the pet store. They move FAST even when they are little. If baby is already pad trained you will need to get a package of potty pads. |
Congratulations mama. I have my first Yorkie, Trinket. Love the breed. She is so sweet. Loves everyone and every animal. |
Thats about how big my yorkie is and I cannot find any clothes that fit her and if I do it must be a good day. I have to be her xxs but most of the time them are to big to. If you want clothes you might have to have one of the yt people to make you some. I personally dont like spending a lot of money on her clothes so good luck. Oh and WELCOME TO THE YORKIE FAMILY!!!! |
Also try looking on here for breeders in your area there are some really good ones on here. Dont give up just yet. |
