Thinking of finally getting a Yorkie puppy 1 Attachment(s) Hi everyone. I need opinions on this little girl. She's from a show breeder in Mexico, where I currently am. She was born the 26th of August and is charting to be 1,600 grams or about 3.5 pounds full grown. The breeder sounds really nice. She's answered all of my questions, no matter how dumb they might be. She's adorable, but I think I just need some YT expert advice. So what do all of you think? ;) P.S. here is the website of the breeder: Elena's Designs-set E48 |
The puppy is adorable and from what I can read, the site looks great! Does she do any health testing? |
Since I don't read Spanish I can't tell much about the site. Most all puppies are cute so I can't judge a pup by that and say it is sound. The one thing I can see is that they seem to put a lot of emphasis on the weight of the dogs which indicates that small size is really important to them. Do you know the leading lines in Mexico? Do you understand how to read a pedigree? You might want to ask to see the pedigree and find out about the history of the line and how genetically sound it is. Even show dogs can have unstable genetic backgrounds. |
Yay, I'm glad the site isn't one of those red flag raisers. ;) I hadn't asked her about testing for the parents. But I'm going to speak with her in the phone tomorrow. She does offer a one year genetic and congenital disease guarantee. I think her site also guarantees size, not that I'm going to return a little one because she's bigger than expected. ;( She also offers lifetime advice. The only problem is that I can't see the puppy in person because she's in another state. But she did tell me about her personality, etc. ;) The puppy's little ears look adorable. The photos were taken yesterday. |

1 Attachment(s) This is the dad. He's not on the website listed with her other dogs. So there's no pedigree for him. I haven't seen the mom either. She said the dam looks just like this dog. Red flag raiser? |

They tatoo the yorkie too.... |
Yup, they do that here in Mexico. All dogs that are registered are microchipped and have their number tattooed into one of their legs. ;( At a pet store they even do that do the bunnies so they know what breed it is. ;( |
I'm not sure if anyone in the breeder section would be familiar with the lines you are dealing with but it might be worth a try to find out. Did the breeder say they have any kind of health guarantee? I just don't understand how they cannot have genetic testing. It seems like if they are dealing with international lines that the show breeders would have to have testing done. A breeder does not invest in expensive breeding stock and not have health testing done. Check out the registry they are dealing with and make sure you see the pedigree and do as much research on it as possible. |

I agree here. Quoccles is a very reputable line, with lots of show champions, how-ever how far back in the pedigree is it? I am suspect of breeders who "throw out" well known lines and say it is in their lineage.. just as a selling point. Betty Ann and Vicki Lyn will work with you to get you a puppy delivered safely. Many European countries and certainly Mexico do not do the kind of testing we do here in North America. Other than Germany most do not do what we do. |
I'm glad my being a little paranoid is good. Hehehe! I want a Yorkie that is a good representation of the breed and I want to try and grow a longer coat, so the silky hair is a must! My first and only Yorkie I owned about 17 years ago had the cottony coat that was so hard to care for. So I want a Yorkie that has that amazing coat. I was supposed to complete my last year of medical school in New York, so I was waiting for that to hopefully be able to purchase a little Durrer baby. But now that Arizona is an option, I thnk I may go there because its closer to California and my family. I had kind of given up hope on ever owning a Durrer baby, but I think you guys have really helped me bring that hope back. ;) I had spoken with Ms. Durrer about the shipping and she had said it would be tough on a little one to fly in cargo to Califnornia and I agree. So that was why I was waiting to live in NY and since that might not be the case now, I was kind of looking for something in Mexico. But I think I'm just going to wait. You're completely right in saying to get something from a line I fell in love with. Why settle for anything less. Thank you guys for your advice. ;) I truly appreciate it. ;) |
