Not Yorkies, but still need help After a week and a lot of help from people in our community my son and I capture two older male chihuahuas that had been living under a bridge outside of town. They were chunky little guys, nails clipped, and indents where collars used to be but no home. We brought them home with us in hopes of finding their owner; however, after 6 weeks we still have no idea what their story is or where they came from. I am now looking for a rescue that can take them. They do not get along well with other dogs, and we have seven. Honestly, they really are not all that people friendly either, but we have not really spent a lot of time with them either. They pretty much stay in my daughter's room, and are content in there until they see or hear the other dogs then the growling and snapping begins. IT seems as if they have been together their whole lives and I really would hate to see them separated; which is why I have no taken them to our local animal shelter. does anyone have any ideas? I cannot keep them much longer, as I feel it is unfair to them and our other dogs. I am willing to look into any suggestions you might have. Thank you. |
Wonder if the owners took the collars off and dumped them? Poor little waifs.....Sounds as if they have grown up together.....I am like you....I hate to see them separated....I would put notice up at vet offices in the area, groomers too, anyone that will let you...and just say 2 Chihuahuas, grown up together, looking for a home where they will remain together, no other pets.... Maybe you will be able to get them rehomed together........ |
I would try Chihuahua Rescue Groups < Illinois > My stepmom had two that grew up together and I love dogs BUT those two WERE just mean hateful growling barking evil little things... I had been around them since they were puppies and when I would go visit they would go on NONSTOP unless I sat VERY VERY STILL AND DID NOT SPEAK A WORD!! |
Have you checked to see if they were Microchipped ? BARC, ASPCA, City Animal Control, Local Vets, several facilities have those "Wands" which may reveal ownership...maybe ? |
You are a good person for making the effort to catch them and protect them. |
I'm glad that you took them in. Have you thought about trying to find them a new home? I have fostered and been able to find homes for several strays. It's hard when they don't get along with your resident dogs :( I would recommend posting an ad for them at your vet, in the paper, Craigslist etc. It's just important that you screen potential new homes and do a vet check to make sure they are good people. Maybe you could get that chi rescue to take them in. Good luck! |
