Thanks, Jeanie. I don't use my camera nearly enough, and I rarely apply much of what I've learned over the years because I am often too rushed to just get my photos. I have been teaching as a resource room teacher in the same high school now for twenty nine years, and my classroom is wall to wall photos of my students over the years. It's amazing how years later my students stop by to visit, but they always make sure to view the photos.

I use Capture NX 2 to process my photos. I haven't spent a lot of time learning about photoprocessing, but I use the program more to bring out the colors, and it's the best program to bring out Nikon's beautiful color. I am much more of a purist and don't like photomanipulation much.

That's what I was hoping to find - a software program to enhance color realistically and subtle repair effects. Is that program one that comes with the Nikon camera or did you purchase it separately?

Capture NX (or sometimes a "lite" version)comes with most Nikon DSLRs.It can also be purchased as a stand alone.

To be honest I am not sure. I googled online and one page is saying the limit is at 20 minutes.

You are seriously my photography lifesaver and I think I finally found the camera I want to save up for. Phew!

I was wondering, lenses that have motors in them, are they able to be used on the older cameras? I can see how the old lenses wouldn't be able to be used on newer cameras though. I don't think it's too big of a deal either, I was just curious.

All of the newer lenses have motors in them (AF-S). The drawback to needing the motor is that you can't use some of the older lenses if you want the camera to focus for you. An example of this the 50mm prime lens that is only around $100. That lens is a 50 1.8 lens, and when Nikon made a 50 1.4 lens with a motor in it, the lens was over $400. I own both of those lenses. The 1.4 lens can be used in lower light conditions, but the 1.8 lens is a great lens, especially for the price. I always stay with Nikon lenses because the lenses, but there are excellent manufacturers who also make lenses for Nikon. If you are starting out without any preexisting lenses, I wouldn't worry about the camera not having a focusing motor.

At the time that I got my camera, it was a promotion to include Capture NX with itand then I upgraded to Capture NX2. I don't know which program that Nikon includes with their cameras now, but I'm sure it's something which will optimize Nikon's beautiful colors.

One of the many reasons why I love Nikon is that it has used the same lens mount on their cameras, so that when they came out with autofocus lens and digital, almost all of the old Nikon lenses can be used on them. The newer lenses with the motors can be used on older cameras. I can't use any of the DX lenses on my film cameras because they don't cover the full frame of the negative, but the non-DX lenses can be used on film and FX cameras.

Looking at the attached lens list, I see Nikon came out with a 50mm !.8 lens with a motor in it. I used to know every lens that Nikon released, but I'd prefer to come here to read about Yorkies when I have free time now.
