new pet owner Hello everyone, I'm new to this, hope I'm posting right. Well I have a slight problem. I have a small 7 month old yorkie. She was fixed about two weeks ago. I was told not to get her wet and no jumping or rough movement. I was scared to groom her hair for fear of hurting her. Today is the day she got her sutures removed, so I was anxious to get her groomed. Well she was pretty matted at the legs and a little on the body as a result of me not grooming her during her time of healing. The groomer told me she would have to have a hair cut. When I picked her up she was practically naked. The report says she was 10k on the legs and I guess 7k on the body. She looks so fragile without her hair. Will it take a long time for her hair to grow back. I'm just not use to her without any hair. Help!!!! |
WELCOME!! Hair does grow back. You might consider getting your baby several sweaters. They get cold so easially, yorkies have no undercoat. So in the winter they can get cold even if they have long hair. Mine wears clothes all of the time and her body is kept short. The weather here in TX has been warm enough that my airconditioner is still being used,Mina gets cold even when the air unit comes on. She is brushed out every morning, just a quick go over with the brush. There are several sites online that sell cute sweaters or you can find them at the petstore. There is a list of people,I think in the library, that sell very nice winter things here at YT. |
Hi Asia, I had my yorkie shaved down once due to matting and it took a good 2-3 months for her hair to grow back. You'll get used to it, I felt like you at first and my dog looked so tiny I thought she would end up getting stepped on or hurt. But she made out just fine. Definitely make sure that you buy your baby lots of clothes to wear! |
Welcome to YT! Can not wait to see a pic of her. I guess you are going to have to do a little shopping for her |
Fear not, her hair will grow back nice and beautiful. Both of mine were groomed last weekend. My boy got his coat lifted to belly length and my girl got shaved down and beveled - her hair is thicker and she occasionally gets a little matted from her harness - she was so proud of her new do. Both of my pups prance around the house showing off their new cuts every time they get groomed. Just like their humans, a bad hair cut will grow out. Glad your baby healed from her surgery. Be sure to post a pic. |
Hello and welcome to YT. I went through something similar with my little one a while ago and her hair grew back very quickly. I agree with the others on getting sweaters for her. |
Hi, I had to get Maxximus shaved on his whole underside. Talk about funny looking not to mention how it felt to give him belly rubs. I grows back quickly. Glad your baby is good after her spay. Welcome! |
Welcome to YT |
I agree she needs some clothes to keep her warm |
Thanks everyone..I will be sure to post pics as soon as I figure it out. |
My two had a slight matting problem when their hair was transitioning to adult hair. I kept it short for a few months so we didn't have any "tears". Now is a great time to get her in the habit of daily grooming even if she doesn't need it, combing or brushing when her hair is short will be painless and by the time it grows in she will stay used to it.We keep a comb on each coffee table so we can run thru while they are in our laps watching TV. |
