Tugging on the leash Since I'm new to the whole yorkie experience, how do you make them stop tugging on the leash when you're walking them? Every time we go out he has to drag me along, no amount of telling him to stop or no or just stop walking makes him stop the tugging. Any suggestions? |
What are you walking your pup on? A collar or harness? I know they make no pull harnesses that latch in the front, I used it for my boxer, and it worked great when we were in training classes a little yorkie was in our class and pulled and the trainer goth her a no pull harness and the difference was night and day |
I have heard good things about the Easy Walk harness. It attaches to the front and pulls them in the opposite direction that they want to go. When my two pull, I walk them in the opposite direction so they understand that they aren't going to get anywhere fast if they pull :p |
My Chewie is 3 - 4 years old and (I think) set in his ways. We walk him with a harness because he's small and I've heard that collars are not good. |
Yes, you don't want to walk him on a collar with their fragile necks! The step in harness is what I use and the lady in training class used, I just couldn't figure out the name of it lol |
Hello and Welcome to YorkieTalk! :) My girl, Yazmin always pulled and choked herself even though she was wore several styles of Harnesses. I found the Buddy Belt Harness from a member, Karen (Maximo) here on YT. The design of the BB solved the constant pulling and choking immediately! ;) Buddy Belt Harness, Leather Dog Harness |
When my boys start pulling I just stop walking completely and sometimes even turn around. It takes a few times but then they figure out that if they pull we stop. Once they start walking nicely I praise them like crazy. |
