Hey everyone, I'm new here! I've been reading this message board ALL day (work was slow!) and I thought I'd introduce myself and ask a question! I'm a 21 year old student, and I'm going to get my first yorkie after christmas! This is my first time owning a pet on my own. When I lived with my parents I had 2 dogs but the whole family took care of them, so I'm a little bit nervous about being a good puppy mom! I've wanted a yorkie for about 2 years but this is the first time I've lived in a place where I could have a pet. My landlady said as long as it was little, not too noisy, and didn't shed, she was okay with it. So... I'm moving into this place at the end of december because I start classes in January. I have not seen the puppy yet but I have talked with the breeder and my dad is going to go see the puppy and give a deposit tomorrow to hold it for me. The breeder seems very reputable and both parents are champions. ANYWAYS i'm gonna get to my question now! What will I need RIGHT AWAY before I bring the puppy home? I know food, a crate, toys, and general things like that, but is there anything I might not have thought of?
ONE MORE question...
The breeder told me that the puppy isn't going to be really small, she said she's a little chubbier than her other puppies but she doesn't think she'll get any bigger than 6.5 lbs. This is fine with me, chubby puppies are cute! But I was wondering if any of you have yorkies that size, how tall are they approximately?

Welcome! I am positive you will get plenty of responses. When I took my puppy home, I stopped by the store and picked up some Karo syrup just in case my Muffin wouldnt eat. Didnt have any problems but it was suggested to give him 1-2 tablespoons a day just to be safe. Good luck and best wishes with your new little one!

I think there are a lot of people on here that post during work and if they don't post then they are peaking, too. ;) Welcome to YT and congratulations on your prospective new puppy. If you'll do a search, you'll find numerous threads that tell you what you'll need. I know you're terribly excited.

I know what you mean when you say you feel a little nervous taking care of a puppy. With our family dog, we would all take turns walking her, bathing her and taking her to the vet. Now with Twinkie (13weeks) its only ME!!! But you ll see that it is not that hard and the little furbaby will love you even more knowing you are there for her/him and taking care of her needs.

Yeah, the breeder said she's already got her going on paper pretty consistently and she's only 10 weeks old so hopefully she's a fast learner! I think I'm going to stick with just the wee wee pads at least until the snow melts and it warms up a bit!

pee pads, nutri stat, food, I would get dry and wet......

Hope you don't sleep much!!! (just kidding....maybe :rolleyes: ). Food, water, and pee pads are the basics.... You will do just fine with your new baby... good luck and post pictures when you can!!!! :)

Thanks! I've got so much puppy supply shopping to do in the next couple weeks! On top of all the christmas shopping I haven't even started yet! lol
