Questions about my Chewy!??! Ok so I have had Chewy for a little over a week he is almost 12 weeks. It seems to me all he does is sleep. He will play maybe 3 times a day for about 5 mins. He does get up to go to the bathroom and eat and stuff but is this normal? Also he doesn't eat a lot. It kind of worries me because I heard they can get hypoglycemia really easy. He probably eats 6-7 times a day but it is only maybe 10 pieces at a time. He does drink and probably potties about 6-8 times a day. I am just worried that this is not normal and that he should be more of a playful puppy. |
All new puppies should get a good check up from your own vet. That will ease your worry too. Some really young pups sleep a lot. I think a 12 week pup should be pretty active in bursts, then nap. Julia my puppy is 15 weeks old, is very playful, chews everything and is curious. She eats about an 1/8 to a 1/4 cup of puppy kibble per day. I also cook for my Yorkies, so Julia gets a tiny portion of veggies, brown rice and boiled chicken breast. |
I did take him to the vet and the vet said he looked good. He did have giardia (spelling sorry) when i got him and finished up his medication today. So I don't know if maybe that has something to do with it also. I go back to the vet this week for shots and plan to discuss it with him Wens just sems so far off so I wanted to know if I was worrying for nothing. Thank you I will try to make him some chicken, veggies and rice. Maybe he just doesn't like the food and doesn't have energy because he isn't eating right |
It could also be the medicine that makes a little tired. I think it's great that you are really aware and paying close attention. I agree about the boiled chicken, Georgie can't resist it:) Let us know what the Vet says. |
Just checking back for newer posts. I am so glad you took your puppy to the Vet already. Yes, the meds can make him sleepy. Try some tiny pieces of boiled chicken, you can moisten his food with chicken broth or strained baby food meat too. Bless his little heart. Keep us up dated please. |
Thank you! I took him to the vet within 24 hours of getting him...lol. I wasn't taking any chances! He is feeling a little better this evening. He ate some of his kibble and some canned food. I am having hubby pick up some chicken breasts on his way home because everything I have at home is in marinade frozen. :/ but he is playing! As we speak he is trying to lick my 8 year olds face on the floor! Yay! Hopefully he is over whatever was wrong. |
Just curious why my posts have to be approved by a moderator? |
I hope Chewy eats for you:) He eats alot compared to how much Joel ate, lol. I dreaded getting up in the morning bc of how much of a pain it was going to be to get him to eat, sometimes he wouldnt eat until 5-6pm but thankfully he never had problems with hypoglycemia. |
I posted this long thing earlier but it said it needed to be approved :(. Anyhow, Chewy is feeling much better this evening. He ate quite a bit and was playing with my 8 year old on the floor trying to lick her face! So hopefully he keeps it up! I'm totally paranoid about hypoglycemia. But so far so good and hopefully it was just his medicine. :) |
Thank you guys he is. Little better tonight. I don't know why but I have written two replies and it says it needs to be approved...getting frustrating |
I m glad to here he is a little better. I think your post get that for a couple of days. Welcome to YT |
