Can dandruff shampoo be used on dogs? My teapot Yorkie has the worst dry flakey skin. Does anyone know if Head & Shoulders would be ok to use on a dog? |
I personally wouldn't just bc human shampoo is not ph balanced for a dog...it might make it worse. Are you rinsing him very well? Sometimes, shampoo residue can leave their skin flaky & very itchy. I would give him another bath, rinse very well & use a very good conditioner (human conditioner is ok) to put back moisture to his dry skin & rinse very well again. |

He is getting rinsed really well, I am sure about that. I don't plan to use the dandruff shampoo on a regular basis, just occasionally if its safe. I have tried all types of dog shampoo but nothing has worked so far. I see a trip to the vet in his near future, lol |
Human shampoo should not be used on dogs. They make shampoos for dogs for dry and flaky skin. |

Thank for your replies & I am not going to try it. Will try the cocoanut oil suggestion. |

I agree that human shampoos and conditioners are not the right Ph for a dog. Most flaky skin is a food deficiency and/or not rinsing properly. Coconut oil is helpful or some other Omega3 supplement. When you give him a bath just keep rinsing. If you are using a cup and not a spray to rinse it is very difficult to get the suds off the skin. Lift the hair up and rinse, rinse and rinse some more. |
