Puppy trouble pooping Our vet is closed so I will drive her to a neighbouring vet clinic an hour away. We had an earthquake last night so things are a bit crazy and are worried about after shockers. We changed her food it was iams we changed to actcana. Yesterday she had the runs a bit in the morning. She pooped a lot and she needed a bath. :) This morning she was pushing and pushing. Her bum hole is red and when she finally pooped it was fairly hard and long. Then there was some pinkish blood. She is eating like a horse, drinking lots, and playing good. |

Quite often, a change of food (especially if it's not done gradually) can cause dramatic changes in the Littlies poop - most seem to have quite sensitive stomachs! May I ask - was the blood in the poop...or is it coming from her 'bum-hole' ? Only on YT.....!!!! :D Sally + Harry :aimeeyork x |

did you change her gradually ? if not, that could be the problem... * i think the vet is a good idea considering there was blood in her poo. i would give her tummy some time to rest , just give her some cooked white rice and boiled chicken.. then when you start feeding her kibble mix the iams with a little of the acana for a few weeks . Each week increase the amount of new and less of the old... hope this helps and she feels better soon |
I switched her cold turkey. The cat ate the iams lol. Should I go get some? She had lose poops again but seems a bit better. Her anus is now punk. Is there any poly I can put on it? |
Wither it is cat or dog, you change their food gradually. You gave a shock to her sytem |
I agree with Oscars Mom and Verbana always do a gradual change. I think because she's a puppy and their was blood in her stool I would take her to the vet. We spent many hours at the vet with Georgie when he was a puppy. We didn't take any chances. I hope she is better soon! Please keep us posted! |
Punpkim or sweet potatoe baby food works wonder wether it be hard or loose stool.. Quarter size drop and her little pooper will be back to normal :) |

well , i would say not to let her eat the cat food for sure. probably just keep her on the acana since that is what she is eating but maybe for a few days feed her the rice and chicken and a tsp of plain canned pumpkin and then gradually add in the acana kibble.. hopefully she will feel better soon.. i would certainly see the vet to be sure everything is ok |

We took her to the vet yesterday, the vet said she is fine- it's just the change of food and water. She was on we'll water at breeders. Due to poor driving conditions yesterday (blizzard) we are heading out today to get some pumpkin and plain yogurt for her. The vet said that the blood was from baring down so hard that she had torn. Poor little thing. Thanks everyone so much. :) Kiki thanks you too. :) |
Awww just reading this thread from my fellow Canadian...first Welcome to YT!! You have received lots of wonderful advise here...hope she feels better soon...again welcome and please post some pics of your baby, we love pictures here! :) |
You definitely made a switch for the better... You couldn't pay me to feed Iams :) Next time you switch, do it gradually... I think the pumpkin and yogurt should help her system. I would also recommend some boiled chicken and rice. |
