It takes time. I added my second one back in August with a resident 4 1/2 year old - I now find them sleeping in the same bed when they think I'm not looking. |
Heart Broken (Update) Hello again, it has been a couple of weeks and progress is slow, I think I have to accept this. My 2yr old Yorkie will jump on the couch and bark at the puppy and at times it sounds a bit aggressive. But they have never bitten each other. The only time time they will be next to each other, is if I have food or if they are on a leach. Do do not play together yet, but I think the puppy is a bit to pushy and wants to jump and play, but my Yorkie is never in the mood for that. But like I said, things are slowly progressing. |

Belive me it wont happen over night or even after a few weeks but she will get use to him being there. I've been through this several times and it always the same thing. The older one avoids the young pup and the pup just want to play and nibble on the heals of the older one. Just try to pay equal attention to both of them and just give it time. Be sure to correct any bad behavior from either of them ASAP. Be sure that they each know what is expected of them and what is not aloud. |
If your adult Yorkie does not enjoy the puppy personality then there isn't much you can do but try to keep the pup from being too annoying to him. It will eventually get better as long as you keep your older dog as top dog and don't let the youngster run the show. He won't be a puppy forever and eventually the youngster characteristics will go away. Hopefully, they will be better together as adults. Two weeks is just the beginning of the adjustment period. |
This is totally normal! It'll take some time, maybe a few days, or weeks, or even months but she'll come around to the new pup eventually! My big guy is 7 1/2, the only dog in our lives for all of HIS life and then all of a sudden this summer I brought home a new pup. It took a week or two but now my boys are the absolute best of friends! Give it time, it'll all work out! =D |

It isn't only trying to introduce a strange dog into your home but also the birth of puppies to one of your own. My Sugar was an iffy mother to start out and has never been very enthralled with her (only) offspring but her twin sister Spice follows the puppy (now a full grown dog) around and the are the best of friends. Pippo (the ex-puppy) loves the girls and will run to console them if they wimper and is willing to play any time. Dogs have their own likes and dislikes and they work out the boundaries in their own way. Just enjoy them |
