Found Yorkie Hello, A Yorkie male with a collar and leash showed up in my yard yesterday. I do not know if he got into the yard or someone put him in there, but he is definitely not a stray and is lost. I live in Alpharetta GA and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions. I took him to my vet to see if he is microchipped and he is not. Are there any rescues in the Atlanta area? There have been no signs for "Lost Dog" posted near my house which really surprises me as this dog appears to be missing his people. Thanks for any suggestions. |
Did the vet check for a microchip all over the dog or just around the neck/shoulder area? I ask because chips can migrate to anywhere on the dog.... |
all over |
Have you checked on Facebook? Oh an Welcome to YT! |
was thinking about FB. Is there a Yorkie page on FB? |
If your yard is fenced, it sounds as if someone might have thought this would be a good home for him and left him there.. |
@Micah ml, I was thinking that as we have 4 dogs and the yard is fenced, however I found him behind the barn which is not as secure and he could have come from the far back. |
Look on Craig's List for lost yorkies. |
Do you have an animal control department? You should call them, the police, the humane society, and local vets and let them know you found this dog. You can also place a lost and found ad in your local newspaper. Don't say it is a yorkie. Say it is a small dog and make callers describe it. I think one of two things happened. 1. A child was walking the dog and lost control or 2. It was left in your yard on purpose. If no one claims it are you willing to keep it? If not a yorkie rescue would be the right call. I don't know of any in your area but I'm sure someone on here will. |
Thank You for taking the Yorkie into your home while you are looking for his family. Maybe he was dog napped and escaped, or a dog walker was walking him and fell or became ill, so many unknowns. Please make every effort to find his family. You have gotten some good ideas, posting on FB, Craigs List, your local news paper (news papers are often on line too and easy to post on) You might even try you local radio, call and tell them the story. Do not post his sex, breed,or picture, these are things the real people will know. I will briefly tell you the story of Twinky. She was stolen from her yard. Owner unknown (No tags or micro chip) she was picked up by the dog warden as a stray. Her owner found her in the dog pound, 8 months after she was stolen ! So someone had her for 8 months, she had been groomed, was not skinny and had a fancy rhinestone collar, she had also been spayed. |
It's amazing how fast and far a scared little dog can run. It could be that the owner will place an ad in the newspapers in the coming days. It does take a few days to get an ad in the paper. Check with other vets to see if they know of a missing York. Check with several different shelters. Most people would report a missing dog to a shelter and not to a rescue. Pet stores and groomers are places that an owner may post a flyer about their missing pet. Any where that they allow a bulletin board may have a missing dog flyer. Local radio stations often do lost and found pet announcements. It could take time for the owner to get around to doing all the things that need to be done to find their dog. No one expects to lose their dog while out for a walk. What a shame the dog did not have an ID tag and a chip. You might also take the dog to be scanned at the shelter. Some vets cannot detect all chips. Using a different scanner could possibly detect a chip. |
Can you post a picture, I know most of the Yorkie owners in my area (Alpharetta is not that big). I will put out the word to my friends that you have a found the little guy. Also will call my Vet, please send me a Private Message if you need any help with finding his owner, more than happy to help. We Yorkie lovers tend to stick together. |
Just spoke to my Vet, no one has called but they said if you want to bring him up there they will scan him. My Vet is Webb Bridge Animal Hospital just past Alpharetta Hospital on Webb Bridge Rd. Also have calls into my Groomers and my Meet Up groups letting them know. |
Additional comment about the rescue, if you cannot keep the dog let me know I will get him from you and try to find the owner. If not able to locate the owner I will surrender it to the rescue where I volunteer - Atlanta Pet Rescue. I feel very strongly this is someone's beloved Pet and they would want it back. Let's hope you found its owner. |
