hi , congrats on your new pup. well in my opinion beggin strips are not good. if it were me i not give those anymore. rice is not a healthy meal either. yes, some yorkies are very picky. i would get a high quality grain free kibble and a good can food. probably scheduled feeding would work best in your case... Mix a couple tablespoons of can food in his kibble and feed him 2 x per day. try to stick with the same brand of food if he eats it. changing too many times will make his pickiness worse.. i dont know what you are feeding now or how much your little one weighs but he should eat at the very least 1/2 cup per day. here are a few good brands to try: fromm grain free acana blue buffalo innova natures variety |
Beware that Beggin Strips has caused Pancreatitis in a lot of dogs. |

I COULD FIND ANY INFO ON THE RECALL BUT I FOUND THIS. YUCK !! Where?s the Beef? Why your dog should never eat another Milk-Bone or Beggin Strip, and you should avoid the Slim Jims. | Dirty Popcorn |
Hi! Welcome to YT! You will find tons of great information here on feeding. If I may make a suggestion, I would say limit the amount of "treats" he gets, because getting too many is not good for your little guy. Like an above poster suggested I would get a good quality food to feed him and also maybe some nutri cal to make sure he stays on track while you are getting him used to eating food. Again welcome to YT! Please post pictures when you get a chance, would love to see what your lil angel looks like.:) |
I agree with what the others have said. Get him on a high quality grain free dry and wet food. If you get desperate, boil some chicken and feed him small amounts of that. Then mix it in his food to get him to eat. |
I agree with all that has been said as well. You will likely need to 'adjust' :p his eating habits, which will most likely be a gradual process...which he may resist. :p But, he will get hungry and will eat...eventually, so the best or a good quality food offering is great to have handy when he does...and you can use it as treats to get him started. :p I saw some other decent brands listed already, and there are others as well, but there is also Iams Healthy Naturals (green and beige bag) in the grocery store that is pretty decent ingredient-wise that I have discovered even my kitties like...not just the Yorkies. I know others who have used it who have show dogs and are equally picky. I bought some because all my babies seem to like variety from time to time, so I tend to keep a couple different ones on hand so I have something I know they can/will eat when they turn down their regular food...but I am a label reader, ingredient researcher, and very picky about the amount of what I call "crap" I will eat or allow my fur babies to eat. Yorkies are fabulous trainers of humans...but your post seems to indicate you've either found out already, or are learning quickly. :teethysmi Congratulations! :yorkiesar Err...did I miss the pictures? :D |
HOLY SMOKES!! My dogs love beggin strips. WOW!! I will no longer give them that. I feel bad. =/ |
Some Yorkies are very picky...the ones I know are ALL picky but one. And that is how I ended up with homecooking for mine. |

dont beat yourself up , at least now you know.. I think sometimes we assume because it is made for our pets that is safe to give... Unfortunately that is not always the case.. I think it is very important to read the ingredient list on anything we feed our pets.. |
