Why do people dump animals???? I took Rosie to the vet today. While I was there, the lady at the desk told me two stories that just made me mad. One day, she comes to work and there is a box in front of the door. A box full of kittens!! They were so tiny and needed to be bottle fed!! :( So they took them in and found them homes. Then, she said a man walked in one day. Handed the girl at the desk two kittens and said "Here they are yours now". And left!!!:thumbdown:thumbdown What the heck!!!????? She took both of them home with her. The next patients that came in ended up being two cats. An elderly gentleman had them. They had been dumped off on him too!!!!:eek::eek: Really?????!!!! People need to get responsible! It just makes my blood boil! Sorry! End of rant! |
I don't know why people like that even bother to get a pet if it is merely a possession that can be dumped or given away when it is sick or becomes inconvenient! Why don't they just get a stuffed animal or a new vase or something - why a living, loving, breathing animal that loves and depends on them, wants to be with them more than anything? And how is that baby rewarded for its companionship and affection, all its little kisses & cuteness, sticking by their side through thick and thin? One day it's stuck into a box and setting on a porch or on the side of the road somewhere as daddy or mommie has driven away for good! For good! I wonder what kind of conscience people like that have and how it lets them sleep? (I hope they don't!) |
I live in a dumping zone. We are outside of town in the woods. We are way off the main road and there is a small access road that connects us with the main road. I guess people think they won't be seen dumping their pet in the wooded area. I think people many times will grab a kitten or puppy from someone's accidental litter and keep it for a while. When it gets past the cute baby stage and becomes more of a bother they dump it. My grandchildren would visit and always find the latest abandoned dog or cat and bring it to me to save. I have lost track of the work and money that have been put into helping these poor creatures. It is frightening to me that there are so many people that are so callous and disregard the lives of innocent animals. I worked in the human medical profession for many years and saw much abuse and neglect of children. I have to assume that it is the same type of people that would harm or abandon an animal. |
I cannot answer your question, but I can say I 'inherited' some wonderful pets by the 'dump' method. I have a dirt road beside my property, and between the ferals, dumps and strays. we have been blessed with some beauties. We were the winners...and all mistreateds who have come here found love, but gave us so much more! There is nothing more rewarding than watching them come out of their shell and blossom into a treasured fur baby from their former nuisance underfoot animal. Hugs |
It is pretty sad... I have taken in so many kittens that were too young to even eat wet food. I cannot imagine allowing your cat to have kittens and then not being responsible enough to keep them inside. |
At least they took them to the vet, it would be worse if they left them on the street... |
i agree with you. nothing worse than that excect dumping an elderly baby to get a new one!! people have no values or morals sometimes. |
Our youngest son's lifelong pet Max was dumped or actually he had to have been sat on our deck when he was about 4 weeks old. DH said we had 2 weeks to find him a home. Brandon was in 5th grade at the time and we just lost Max at age 17 this past summer and Brandon is now 27.:p So we ended up finding Max a very good home:) We have so many stray and feral cats on our property it is not funny and they are mostly huge tom cats. |
My 2 cats were both dumped. The first was dumped at a shelter, where we found him and took him home with us. The second was brutally beaten and starved and left to die Christmas Eve at a friend of ours' farm. Luckily our friend is a fellow Vet Tech and took her in and nursed her back to health. We ended up taking her home with us, since our friend already had 3 cats and no room for another. She's still skittish and runs away from things. Poor thing :( I just don't understand what is wrong with people! |
A lot of people own animals who have no business owning one. A good breeder tries to insure their pets are going to a loving permanent home, while backyard breeders and pet stores sell to anyone who has the money. Pet ownership should never be a decision made on a whim, but should be viewed as a long term commitment. A commitment that is longer than most marriages! |
It is so sad for these poor animals. My daughter recently rescued a dog that a friend had found in the KMart parking lot. They have tried everything to find the owners, but no luck. It is a long-haired Doxie and turns out she is pregnant and the pups should be due any day. She meant to keep this dog until she has her pups and then find her a new home, but she has fallen in love with her, so she's keeping her. |
It's still not right, but AT LEAST there being dumped at a vets rather then being abused or thrown out of a moving car like I saw on the news a couple days ago. |
