Three months after we lost our Sweetie we decided to get a new puppy. We thought we would get a little boy pup instead of a girl as I just couldn't put Sweetie's clothes on another dog just yet. Well, we got Cooper and he is TOTALLY different from Sweetie. He is a mess! But I have some questions - do I really need to have him neutered since he is an indoor dog and never loose in the yard? I have never had a little boy dog so I am learning just how different they are. I appreciate any suggestions/recommendations.

It's better for their health to be neutered. Also, if he isn't neutered and is outside and there is a girl dog in heat, he will go crazy to try to get to her. Good luck!!

Research has convinced me there are many good reasons to neuter male Yorkies. My Vet thinks it is better to neuter after the dog reaches sexual maturity and has attained their adult size. Most Yorkies bones and organs are done growing by 8 months to 1 year of age.

I have a little boy as well... the apple of my eye!! :) He was neutered at 6 months.

I agree with Sammy Mommy, it is healthier for them in the long run.

I refused to have my little boys manhood removed.. That is until he caught a squirrel by the tail pinned it down to hump and lifted his leg on everything to mark.

A neutered dog is usually a calmer dog and tends not to get overly protective. He is not dealing with hormones that cause him to want to find a female. My son did not want to get his Lab neutered. It seems some human males have a real aversion to neutering their male dogs.:rolleyes: But his dog was continually finding a way to get out of their fenced backyard to go running around the neighborhood. Finally he got him neutered and after several months the escape act stopped. It takes a while for the hormonal change to kick in on a more mature dog. Some un-neutered dogs get overly fond of marking their territory. You can avoid a lot of problems by just neutering the dog and letting him live a normal doggy life. It's a less invasive procedure for a male dog and they recover very quickly.
