How long did you wait? We lost our Gunner last week to coyotes or some type of predator. We have been so heart broken. My daughter keeps crying saying this is the worst nightmare ever! She is right! I had a trapper come out today who is going to set traps on Monday. Anyway, we miss our little man so much we thought we would go see a puppy where we got Gunner. I am not sure this will help or make us miss him more? We learned the hardest lesson ever to NEVER assume it is safe outside even for one minute. |
I am so sorry for your loss... It is never safe to leave a yorkie outside alone. RIP Gunner |
Sorry for your loss. I lost my 17 year old yorkie Kecia and got a newyorkie pup one week later. Getting Pippa was the best "medicine" for helping deal with the loss of Kecia. Afterall, how can you not laugh and smile with a new puppy in your life. I highly recommend getting one but PLEASE be extra careful and not have the new pup outside without you and on a leash. Especially now that coyotes know there are pets (food) nearby they will be watching for more. Good luck! |
With the first I waited one month, then with the 2nd I waited 2 years. I feel those 2 years were wasted when I could have had another sweet Yorkie to be loving all that time, instead of mourning my loss. The new pup made me smile and laugh again, and was the only thing that stopped the overwhelming sadness in my heart. |
I am sorry for the lost of your little Gunner may he RIP... When my Sophy Ann passed away i bought Lola Belle 3 months later. Then a year and a half later we bought little Maya. One never gets over the lost of our precious babies but I think getting a new baby will help with the healing process. Good Luck! |
Losing your beloved friend Quote:
I booked my new puppy two/three wks later and collected her end of Sep. She has made such a happy difference in our house. I would advise looking for another little bundle of fur :D Ax |
So very sorry to hear about little Gunner. I think if you are emotionally ready for another yorkie then it would be a good thing to start looking for another one. We lost our little 6 year old yorkie the end of August. He died suddenly and I still don't know what happened. The first week or so I was so upset and heartbroken I couldn't even think about getting another. I just couldn't stop crying and missed him so much. It took me about a week or two to realize that our home just wasn't the same without a yorkie living in it. We are "expecting" (lol) two new yorkie pups in about two weeks and I'm so happy and excited. Even though I still miss my little guy, knowing that soon our home will be filled with the pitter patter of yorkie feet has really helped ease my grief. Our neighbors had to put their yorkie to sleep the same day that Barkley passed and they already have two new yorkie puppies. Keep us posted on what you decide to do. |
I waited 13 years to get my next dog, I don't have the pain of children's broken hearts to deal with, just my own. that's so terrible about the predatory attack |
After my previous dog died at a rip old age I was not going to get another dog. Found out that living without a dog was harder than I imagined. It took me several months to realize I had to have another dog and then it took several more months to find one. You can never replace a lost fur baby. A new one will be different in many ways. Be prepared to deal with that. Even when getting a puppy of the same breed you will notice some things that are like your other dog but it will have personality traits that are different as well. A puppy may help distract you from the horrible memory of what happened but will never erase it totally. Just be prepared to deal with these issues as they arise with you and your daughter. It will be difficult not to compare the new puppy with your deceased dog. Try not to rush into getting a new puppy. Wait until you find one that is a good match for you and your family. |
So very sorry for your tragic loss. I have rarely had a single dog home. (I have 5 Yorkies right now) When 18 year old Noah died in Oct. last year, we did not get another dog because Ginny Joy was still a puppy. When Zacky died we adopted a rescue the next day, that was our girl Gracie. You don't replace the Yorkie you lost, you honor the love they they taught, by adopting another. |

hugs, |
When ever I have lost a pet ...it didn't take me long to get another...not that I was replacing that pet...it just helped ease the pain and took my focus off of what I lost....I would be (which I'm sure you will be now) SO cautious letting this one outside...NEVER by themselves!! even tied a predator could take them... |

So sorry this happened to Gunner. My heart breaks for you. We had a cat taken and killed 5 years ago :( so sorry |
I asked the same question. Best answer: you will know in your heart. Dont see it as trying to replace. Just allowing another love in your life. I wasnt even looking for a new baby. I was on my quest to find my stolen Choppa and there was Maxximus. We still call him Choppa by mistake but hey we are still in live no matter where he is. |
