How do I get a tick off Milo? Milo has a little tick right by his ear. He goes crazy and cries when I try to get it. He sleeps with us so I want it off before we go to bed. Any suggestion? |
I've heard covering it with vaseline will cut off the air to it? I don't know... Hopefully someone more knowledgable will give you some advice. |
Grab it with tweezers as close to the skin as possible, then pull it off. Best to get it off within 24 hours. Can someone hold him for you and distract him with treats or something? If not, I'd take him to the vet... call and see how much the ER Vet would charge. |
Just get the tweezers as close to the skin as you can and pull it. The longer you leave it in the higher a risk for him contracting lyme or another tick illness. I would wipe the area with alcohol after you pull it. I would buy one of these |
I had to leave it till this morning because he would not let me touch it. I called the vet and they said bring him in and they would get it and I am going to let them cut his nails because he wouldn't let the groomer do it last time. I tried doing his nails to and he don't like it. I had a dashhound one time that he didn't care. But not this little guy. |
Some vets sell tick removal tools at their office. I got one at my vet's and I purchased another one from Amazon. Spring and fall are the times of year that ticks are most prevalent. Flea comb your dog when you bring him in so you catch anything he may have picked up while outside. Just make sure you have a way to crush the nasty icky things. They are much harder than a flea. |
The vet got the tick off so easy but I found two more on him. My husband help me get the others. This is the first time he has got ticks like this. I put frontline on him today. I didn't want to use it because he sleeps with us but it's better than ticks. I use a flea pill and that's works great or fleas. I wish it worked for ticks to. |

Just an FYI, if you plan to continue the Frontline Plus no need to continue using the flea pill. Perhaps you may want to consider treating your yard. This topic about Diatomaceous Earth just came up in another thread. It might be worth a try. Lyme disease is a result of ticks and can be detrimental if not treated. Diatomaceous Earth DE . If you put some dish detergent on a q-tip and hold it on the tick it will smother it and loosen it's grasp. I have used this techique on our yorkie and it worked every time. |
