burying pet in backyard Does anyone know if I have to show a death certificate to animal control when pet dies. I informed them that our beloved Miajj had passed away few months ago. Today I received delinquent notice for her license. We buried her in backyard so we don't have any proof of her passing away :(. I don't know what to do. Any advice truly appreciated! Thank you |
I don't believe you do BUT in some states/cities it's illegal to bury pets in your yard so I don't think I would mention that. I'm sorry for your loss. |

Thank you I miss her sooo much :( Will they ask me what I did with the body? If they do what do I say? |
Just notifying them that she is deceased should be enough, though you will have to do it again, I guess. I'm so sorry for your loss:( |
I don't know what kind of rules your county or city has but usually just reporting the dog's approximate date of death is all records keepers need to take his name off the list. |
I have two poodles and a Yorkie buried in my backyard. All have a homemade headstone and a rose bush by them. Not to worry about anyone getting after you. |
I'm sorry for your loss. Where I live (CA) I just wrote on the form that the dog was deceased and that was that. They don't care where the dog is buried or cremated - they just want their license money if it is living. Don't worry. |

There are countys that demand a letter from vet. |
Thank you everyone. There is a place on the form they sent me that says I no longer have this pet and to give reason. So I will fill it out and send it. |
Sorry for your loss |
SO sorry for your loss. My Paris is also in my yard along with three cats and a hampster. |
