What do you guys think about pet sitters for working parents? My DH has gone on day shift for the last 3 weeks so Maxximus doesn't get the attention or play that he was getting. I feel horrible leaving him in his play yard all day because I wont let him roam or leave him unattended with Shanti. So I thought about looking into sitters while we work. Im ao nervous asking someone to love him when I cant. What do I do? He doesn't seem bothered by the change but I prefer him getting attention and playing with other babies or a person to being by himself. My DH and I didn't forsee a change but had to due to our skin childs change in behavior so we had to do whats best. But I also need to do whats best for my fur baby. |
This is something I have thought about too. I have a neighbor I really like who has offered to walk her and such during the day, but the thought of my not being around to supervise makes me sick, I just don't know if I can trust others to have the same care I do with my baby girl. |
That's exactly where I am on this. I never left my babies except with family until they went to preschool and kindergarten. It's hard because I want him to have someone but don't want someone to have him. I even thought of searching for a playmate his age so he isn't alone but that could turn out terribly wrong especially since my issue is having someone with the one....plus DH would pack a bag and it wouldn't be his HA! Just want him happy and safe. I love him so much I'm paranoid someone would swipe him. Just so much on my mind wanted to ask opinions. |
My niece has a pet sitter that comes everyday while she is at work for an hour. He walks her 2 fur babies, plays with them and works on simple commands like sit for treats. He is absolutely wonderful! He leaves notes daily on where they walked and if they went potty etc. She researched companies online and checked references and has been so pleased. The best part is Oliver and Olivia love him too! |
When my husband is away on business trips mine goes to puppy daycare, the place he goes to is also where he gets groomed and they have an all organic bakery and the owner has 4 yorkies of her own so he is loved and spoiled just as much as if he was at home. I pay $10 a day and he gets weekly report cards that include pictures of him playing with fur friends. |

I think doggy daycare is a great idea if you trust the place and your pup enjoys it :) |
He loves them as much as they love him, he always gets straight A's on his report card which shocks me because he is a demon child at home lol |

I think you guys are setting your sights a little too high. How could you possibly expect a paid stranger to take care of them as you do. Focus on the basic needs of your Furloves... Having some company while you're apart, Possibly co-mingling/socializing with other dogs (with your permission), At least some exercise is good (walk/jog), Food, Water, appropriate shelter, and the security of a Human attendant. What more can you ask ? ;) |
I think if you can find a good trustworthy pet sitter, it'd be great for your kiddo! I think it's really a sweet thing to do for him...and a really nice option to fill his time. :) |
I have used petsitters since 2003. Mostly younger women who come when I'm on vacation. Next vacation, I have a boy pet sitter and he owns a york so I am thrilled! He's also a vet tech. I like petsitters, the dogs love them, and it's a nice investment when you can't always be there! It's not me....never going to be me....but I have learned to trust and have confidence in the people I entrust with our dogs. Plus, who wouldn't love a yorkie, or two or three or four or more! |
I used to use some one when i worked outside the home and they came in and would take my dog for a short walk, he always wrote down the time he came so I knew he was there. Now I think I would only trust an adult, but I often call a neighbor if I am running late, so if you could find a responsible adult and they knew what you wanted like use the harness not the collar and so forth it should be a good thing |

But the costs are just outrageous. I already spend over $1000 a year per animal on just their Health Care. And that being that they're never sick ! |
When I worked outside of the home I had a petsitter who came every day and took Sophie Kate for a 30 minute walk. It worked out GREAT, the girl I hired (after interviewing many) was a retired Vet Tech (more she stayed home after having her baby). I still use her when we are going to be gone for longer than 6 hours. Also a lot of my neighbors use her now, we just saw her a few weeks ago when she was giving an elderly cat some meds while Mom was gone. |
