parker is hyper and nipping! Parker doesn't get it when I try to growl and say no. I have never tapped his nose. Is that okay to do? I know he is only playing, but if you are on the floor w/him and he is in a hyper mood, he'll jump right up and bite your face and won't stop. He also chases the cat and bites her. She slaps him (declawed) but he doesn't care. He also still whines and cries when you leave the room. We have only had him two weeks, but I don't want to spoil him. I am also still worried about the kennel cough. He is on antibiotics, but still wheezing and coughing. I appreciate your responses. Thanks |
How long has he been on antibiotics? If he's still wheezing and coughing after more than 24 hours on them, I'd call the vet again. Many times puppies interpret human growling and taps on the nose as playing on our part. Much better, IMHO, to yelp loudly & immediately break eye contact, get up & walk away. If puppy is behaving appropriately after 1-2 minutes, it's fine to give it another try. As far as the kitty, do you have a babygate up? That way, poor kitty can escape from puppy when she's had enough. |
Thanks, I will call the vet again today. I do usually leave the room when Parker is particularly naughty. I have tried misting with a water bottle, no help. We do have a gate up that the cat jumps over when being harassed, but I feel sorry for her. |
same problem here We've had Dayzee about a month. She also had kennel cough and it took about a week for the cough to go away. Now she is very rambuctious. Torments both of the older pups. She nips at me, she is a furious chewer, and she growled at the groomer. Otherwise she is adorable. Right now she is frustrating me, and I'm wishing I waited longer to get another puppy because my havanese is jealous, mad and ignoring all his service dog training. |
They grow out of that puppy hyperness in time. Chachi was very hyper when he was a pup too but now at 12 months he has calmed down alot. |

My Butch, who is 5 months old ... used to bark alot when I first got him... he's stopped (unless there is something he wants). He is really good.. he knows what "no" and "stop it" means.... My Bitsy, who is 4 months old ... she still nips when she plays... but I notice it is not as severe as when she was real young (she's from my Pebbles' last litter so I've always had her). They do eventually calm down... about a year old. Good luck!! :) |
