Bully sticks...
 
Bully sticks save my fingers from being chewed on and all. But man do they stink. Why do furry kids have to like such smelly treats?

Dogs taste more through their noses then their taste buds, so strong smells appeal to them. They have some no odor and low odor bully sticks, but if you can stand the smell, let your dog enjoy!

I picked up some from pet smart. I know they have less odory ones but I wanted made in USA ones....I don't trust china and those were the only odorless ones I saw

Were they the Red Barn ones? I've heard that they are really strong smelling. I use Merrick, they are also made in USA and they are individually wrapped. I would say they have some odor, but they aren't too bad.

My little ones love them also. I order mine in large quantities from Bestbullysticks.com. They have pretty good deals when you buy in bulk. I order like 50 at a time and they last a long time. They have the low odor ones also, but I get the regular ones and just put up with the smell. :p

Yeah I put up with the smell because A. She is happy and B. the smell is a lot better than the bruises i sometimes get from her needle teeth. :rolleyes:

Why do dogs like to roll in stinky things they find outside? I don't know but I'm glad I have the bully sticks. I haven't found anything safer and it has stopped Gracie's constant seeking something to destroy with her teeth! She does have to keep a bit of distance from me when chewing. Some smell worse than others.

The first ones I bought for my babies stunk so bad when I opened them.... I put them outside to air out for several days. It helped. Then I found out that they have the low and no odor ones. Those are what I buy now. My babies love them.

Sandy wants me to hold hers while she chews on it. She brings it to me and sets it in my hand. After she is done chewing... I wash my hands real quick. LOL. She has me well trained.

Ordered Bully Sticks from Que. This was my first order but won't be the last. All three of my pups love them. There is no odor to these. Brett likes for Mom or Dad to hold it while he chews and so does Bonnie. Our maltipoo says no way she will chew them without our help :D

I do not allow mine to have bully sticks because I advised against them due to they grow bacteria that cause intestinal infections... Was I given wrong info?? Mine loves deer antlers but I am sure he would love to switch things up at times.

I have never heard this...they are the only one I let my dog chew on because unlike raw hides they are completely digestable

Some bully sticks aren't dried property and can have too high of a moisture content, which enables bacteria to flourish. If your dog has a stick that he can eat in a couple of days, it has too high of a moisture content, and it more like a treat rather than a chewing stick. I only get the bully sticks that are made in the USA. Another option is to boil an inch of water in a cup in the microwave. This takes about 30 seconds, set the tip of the bully stick in the water and boil for an additional 30 seconds. Rinse with cool water before giving to your dog. This will soften the tip a bit, which Joey loves. You can also set the bully stick in the microwave without the water and nuke for about 30-60 seconds, this should kill most bacteria, and dry the stick out more. Cool before giving to dog. You don't have to do this, but if you have mulitple dogs that chew on the same stick, this would make it safer.

Bully sticks are good for cleaning teeth. Because they do soften up the end enough for their teeth to sink in it does a great job on the teeth. Gracie is 5lbs but I buy her 12" regular size bully sticks. That way they last a long time. She only gets the end softened and when she is done it hardens back up.

I now only buy the sticks from Best Bully. Their sticks are harder so she can't soften up a lot of the stick at a time. When I purchased the sticks from some other companies they were much softer and she actually got diarrhea from them because she was able to eat the thing rather then just chew the end. There may also be a difference in the grade of meat and the processing.

I don't think there is a bacteria problem. Dogs bodies are made to consume things that a human could not handle.
