Scooting I took Leo for his vet visit and also told the vet that he has been scooting a lot too.So they expressed his anal glands and this is the first time Leo had to have this done.He was fine for 3weeks and now he is scooting again. There is no sight of worms or anything, his stool is fine and he is full of energy. I'm taking him back tomorrow to have his glands expressed again. What can cause this?Do i need to switch him to new food with more fiber? |
More fiber should help. When the poop isn't firm enough, it doesn't empty the anal glands. Hope your little dude is all better quickly:) |
Some times it's more about the food and also if glads were just expressed, I'd ask about how the expression went, maybe iof a groom did it have the vet do it this time, he could be impacted. |
Instead of changing food, you can add a teaspoon of plain canned pumpkin or 5-6 green beans to increase the fibre. Or feed the GBs as a treat... |
Sometimes when it's really cold or we have a rainy session of weather, Tibbe tends to get some build-up in his anals but I notice during times when he's outside frequently and for long periods, running and playing hard, he tends to have no problems. So good exercise and food with fiber are both helpful. |
I took him yesterday and they said anal glands were full again.I did change his food, added more fiber to his meals. He has not done any scooting for 4 days now so hopefully it will stay like this. |
it may be seasonal allergies....lola actually had to have them done twice while hosting a foster and the vet said it can also be stress related. hope you find a solution. |
