Strange question.... One of my Yorkies has recently started screaming in her sleep. Has any of your dogs ever done this? Is it just dreaming? Beth |

She is 11 years old and the screaming just started a few weeks ago. It has happened 3 times now. I think we wake her up cause it scares us (its the middle of the night so Im not quite sure if she wakes up from it or we wake her up) She is fine after it happens though. |
I would get her to a vet right away. So many systems can start to fail at that age. |
Someone posted about this a few years back it was a neurological issue discovered in their senior based on the same type of incident. Screaming while resting or waking from sleep screaming. It was seizures too but due to a neuro issue I can't remeber what it was though. |
Does your dog ever urinate when she has one of these screaming events? |
We are taking her back to the vet this weekend. She does not urinate when she screams or wakes up screaming. Yes, she is getting older, makes me sad to think something bad could be wrong. |
It does sound serious. Could be some kind of seizure activity. It is so sad when they start to age. I hope your vet can do a good work up on her and pinpoint what the problem is. Watch for any personality changes or differences in her daily activities that might help your vet. Sometimes changes are very subtle at first. I hope she will be OK. |
I agree with the above. Take her to the the vet ASAP. Please keep us updated on what they say. Good luck |
Another member here with a younger doggie has experienced a similar issue with waking up screaming. X-rays revealed a back issue. I'm glad you are taking your dog to the doctor. Best wishes. |
I hope you are able to figure out what is going on soon... This is not normal and it sounds to me like she is in pain. Please update us when you get back from the vet. |
