Pet Bed Warmer- Need Suggestions I'm looking into getting either a pet bed warmer or a pet bed thats heated for the winter. I was wondering if anyone else has one, or has used one. I want to get one that's safe and works well. :D. I've seen so many, and just wanted to know what other owners have used / tried. I like the microwave pad, just because there's no cord to worry about being chewed on by a pup. Constant heat would be great too, then I could be lazy and not have to make sure the pads warmed. ;) Suggestions are needed here! My pup hates the cold!:p |
I bought a heated bed a couple years ago from PetSmart and it was crap. It didn't even get warm to the touch... I now use a twin heated blanket for my two on the lowest setting. They love it and it turns itself off automatically. However, it does have a cord... so for a puppy it might not be the best idea if he's using while you are not there. |
I thought about an electric blanket, but decided that maybe that wasn't the best idea. I won't be home for about 8 hrs a day. I'm sure I could block most of a cord so she couldn't get to it, and duct tape the rest, or use a short piece of PVP pipe to cover the exposed part... idk. I'm just starting to look at these since it's been cooler here. .I wont wear sweaters on her when she's alone. She gets a front leg out of the leg hole and into her neck opening ...lol |
I have seen heating pads for dogs online. Some people use them for their outside dogs to put in the dog house so they must be pretty safe. Maybe try to google for a dog heating pad. If your dog or puppy is a chewer then and electric blanket would not be a good idea. I have a regular heating pad that I use for my knee and Gracie loves the thing. As soon as she sees it on my bed she wants to take it over! |
heating pad might work :) |
I use this one with Buster |
I think Foster & Smith or whoever those guys are used to have heated beds, maybe still do. Might Google them and see but they used to send a catalog that had them so they probably still carry them. Is the name Foster & Smith? It seems like it was Foster & Smith or Foster & ?something?. Never ordered anything so can't remember exact name. |
I have one in Callie's crate for at night and its under a blanket. She does not have a cord chewing problem so the cord is ok for us but if you have a cord chewer I would go with the one you microwave I think it would be safer if you have even the slightest thought that a cord would get chewed. |
Thanks! I found Foster and Smith. They have electric for 29.99, microwave for 49.99, and self heating pads for 14.99. I'm looking now. Anyone else try the microwave one? I just wondered how long they stay warm. |
I have used microwave heating pads and they usually only hold heat for up to an hour. I don't think it would do well for all day. Lectro-Kennel Outdoor Heated Pads | CozyWinters.com This one is a bit more expensive but it is supposed to be waterproof and chewproof. I would be really careful putting something that was not chew proof in with a puppy or any dog that chews while you are away. There are several other heating pads for dogs on this site but this is the only one for a dog that may chew. |

Pet Bed Warmer We have the round disc that you heat in the microwave for 5 minutes. It really works great and lasts forever. We just make sure we wrap it in a towel while it is still hot. I mostly use this for puppies when they are small. This one really gets hot so you have to be careful not to get pups too hot. I also have the lectric pad that I use for litters that barely stays warm. It is pretty consistent but the pups dont overheat since it doesnt get that hot. I use both. |
My microwave disc stays warm all day long. It is great. |
I have an electric throw that i use for the dogs, I use it at night on low, and they all lay in it at night.. it works really good.. got it at Khols for $15.00 hugs |
I have the Petsafe heated bed in size mini: Heated Wellness Sleeper?- Mini | PCU00-11249 | Heated Wellness Beds & Pads | PetSafe I like to include a fleece blanket on the bed when it's activated. The fleece blanket insulates the bed, and it gets nicely warmed. Tatiana seems to enjoy the bed. |
