Long or short tail? Pita's tail was docked when we got her, how do they go about that? Does every Yorkie get the tails docked or do some stay long? I like it short but I'm not sure I would've had it docked if it wasn't already done. |
My friend Isabelle have 3 Yorkies with long tails , she purchased them from Hungary . I love them very much . In my opinion , It depends on the furnishing of the tail . |
We live in Wales and deliberately phoned around to find a breeder that did not dock tails!! Just our preference... had two prvious yorkies with docked tails and we then knew nothing re the controversy here re docking and they were just gorgeous!! Our girls Gypsy Rose and Gizzie Chavi have lovely tails that they carry over their body like little palm trees!! :) Ana xx |
Mojo had his tail docked days after he was born...i am getting a female in a few monthss and already specified that i do not wish to have her tail docked. It is permited by FCI that even show yorkies have their tails undocked (AKC does not abide by FCI decision tho). Also, my cousin's boyfriend has a yorkie with an undocked tail! |
Do yorkie's naturally have long tails? When I got Milo he did not know anything about Yorkies. He wasn't the breeder. He has a short tail and I know for sure his dewclaws are removed, but I never saw any stitches. |
Zoey's tail is short and her dewclaws are removed. I thought all yorkies had that done.. |
the vet will cut off the tail around 3 days old and remove the declaws, i have heard of backyard breaders docking themselves with toenail clippers. that is wrong. after the tails are docked the vet carterizes them and they heal up in a few weeks. my family has breed dogs since i was young and i have seen it doneby the vet it really is not that bad. it really is done because of the standard of the breed. sirius has his tail docked if he didn't we would still love him. |
my girl has docked tail too. i think it has been docked abt a quarter off. most yorkies here have docked tails unless they are imported from Australia. |
Gucci tail is docked also. :aimeeyork |
Here in Holland its forbidden to dock the tails so my little girl has a cute tail that looks like a feather, the tip of her tail just touches her back.... it looks so cute, my previous furbabies had docked tails they were born in 1983/1984 and 1989 since 2000 its illegal to dock them in this country :D |
Respected breeders also dock tails and do dewclaws. you use a band on the tail at no later than 3 days old. On the dewclaws you can cut them when they are born put back with mommy and they don't even bleed. :) |
What is dewclaw or declaw? My Tess' tail is docked, but I've never heard of the other. Thanks!!! :D Tess' Mommy |
declaws are a toe nail on the side of the dogs front feet sometimes back ones that most take off. :aimeeyork oh yea they are on the inside of the foot. man , my brain is working slow this morning. The reason they do it is because the nail can grow into the skin and be very painful. |
But you can just cut the nail..:) |
docking Banding is painful..as I found with my pups. I tried it and they cried and fussed for several hours after putting a rubber band on. I was told that was how you do it..I decided to find a better way. Clamp and twist at 3 days is bloodless, can be done as they nurse and barely a reaction, no infection and it makes a great tail set. I know this is a sore subject with many...but I see nothing wrong in a procedure that can be done fairly painless at 3 days...compared to what is going on in the world with human children, I think the forcus is off kilter..JMO and I respect those who do not dock. |
