Baby Sammy and our new baby Remy Hi! I am brand new to posting on this site, but I browsed for a long time and love all of the helpful hints about yorkies! I have a 7 month old yorkie, Sammy, who is the love of my life. He is a super sweet boy and I have been going to great lengths to socialize him with other dogs, people, etc. He is very friendly and not afraid of anything, and he has never shown aggression towards anything or anyone. He even loves small children and toddlers! All these things being said, I am in need of a little advice... My boyfriend recently got a German Shepherd Puppy. Remy is 10 weeks old and a very sweet boy too, and because they aren't too different in size we have been letting them play together, always supervised. They seem to get along well and are always playing and talking to each other in barks and whines and a lot of tail wagging. They even seem sad when they are apart after a few sleepovers at each others house. I really want them to be good friends even as Remy gets older, because Sammy is only 3.5 lbs and we know Remy will be close to 75+ when he gets fully grown. Does anyone have any experience or advice? |
I would suggest that you let them be together, but only when they are supervised. Remy is going to get big very fast and Sammy could be very easily injured (most likely on accident). Many people have yorkies with larger dogs, you just have to be vigilant about keeping them separated unless you are around to watch them :) |
The big and the small of it We have had an English Mastiff named Beau for 3 years and recently added Zoe to the family after the death of our Toy Poodle. They seem to get along very well. He is very protective of her. She sleeps right next to him during nap times. We are very careful when we let them together due to the sheer difference is size. We love them both! |
My yorkies were raised by a 120 pound golden, Lucky. They now live with my 90 pound golden rescue, Buddy. The goldens have always been gentle with them. Buddy will step between them when he thinks they are playing to rough together or too rough with the cats. Once Remy is out of his puppy wildness they will be BFF. Til then keep monitoring them together tip Remy learns to be gentle. |
Thanks for all of the info and advice! Remy does get a little wild in his puppy play but Sammy seems to be the one in charge so far, and last night I caught them sleeping all curled up with each other (on my bed of course)... So I'm hoping that is a good sign. Does anyone have any tips for how I can encourage safe playing and keep Remy playing gentle?? I really want them to be comfortable with each other |
