Bark collars
 

Does anyone know where I can find the citronella bark collars? I am looking into getting one for Chachi. Either that or a shock collar. Are shock collars safe for yorkies? Where do you find them?

My local pet stores carry one or other as well... I've heard the citronella ones don't work quiet as well as the shockers, and they don't do well with picking up high pitched barking/yelping.

My parents used a remote shock collar for training their beagle.. They didn't use it for barking, they were field training her. It sure did make her stop in her tracks. But eventually she learned if the collar wasn't on, she wouldn't be shocked, and she could run as far away as she wanted....

I'm not really a huge fan of any type of citronella/sonic/electric collar. Have you tried anything else to stop problem barking?

We have used the spray bottle and the shaking of a can but not with continued success. My husband is the one wanting to get some type of collar for him.

Water bottle and shaking pennies in a can didn't work for Miko either...We bought the citronella collar from the internet, but I can't remember the website...I think it was www.premiumpetmart.com

Can you use that on a 5 month old puppy?

Just curious is barking a problem with yorkies. That's funny because I was just thinking the other day that i haven't heard libby bark yet.
But she's just 9 weeks old so maybe she hasn't realized all she's capable of yet.lol

Well enjoy it while you have it. Mine didnt bark when they were young like that either. She will though just give her time.

Wosie is 6 months and has just found her voice. So far she's under control with it, but I am sure it will be a battle of wills until she understands I don't like it much. I am trying treats when quiet to see if that will work.

I had a Sheltie that I tried the citronella collar on. The collar worked great, but never stopped the dog from barking! I don't think it bothered her at all, and it made her smell really nice, lol!

i dont' think it has to do w/the breed on how much they bark. i think it has to do w/the surroundings. we have another dog and she only barks as an "alarm." so edgar will bark when she barks.
other dogs with more stimulation seem to bark more.

i have never used a shock collar or citronella one, but i did try with a choclate lab we had an "invisible fence." he was so crazy he ignored the shocks. one day we noticed his neck seemed swollen. i took off the collar....it had pierced his skin and left 2 holes in his neck and was terribly infected! we had to take him to the vet. never again!

allow me to say that I AM AN EXPERT ON THIS SUBJECT because I have tried it all (except the shock collar--I couldn't bring myself to that). My little Edith Jones is a little girl with a lot to say, and she barks all the time. I take her to my office, so bark control is very important.

We tried the citronella collar. It does work, but mine stopped working for some reason. Edie hated that thing.

The BEST thing I have is the "BARKER BREAKER". It is just a small box that I keep on my desk, and anytime she barks, I push the button for a split second. It emits a high pitched tone that Edie hates. She shuts up right away. And she stays quiet. You just need to push the button soon after the bark. You can also get the barker breaker that senses the bark and goes off automatically.

throwing stuff like bottles with noise makers inside did nothing to Edie. I recommend the "Barker Breaker" . THey are cheap too (less than $30). :thumbup: The citronella collar was $100 plus the cost of citonella, batteries, I spent $130!!! :eek:

Oh--I only use the Barker breaker at work. Edie barks to her hearts content at home--I think she has a cute bark. :)

I have a Sheltie that loves to bark, too. I've tried EVERYTHING!!! I tried a cirtronella collar last, but the collar didn't work so I took it back.

Next stop - the Barker Breaker mentioned above....

I used the "Barker Breaker" on my poodle years ago and it totally worked. I would recommend it also. I never tried the citronella or shock collars. Good Luck!!!
