Naming your Yorkie I thought it might be interesting to hear how everyone came up with their furbaby's name. I'll start. My husband and I could only agree on one name "Brandy" When we picked her up from her breeder, she already came with the name Madison. Her mother was Little Bit O Heaven and her father was Little Toy Soldier. We officially named her Little Brandy Madison, which I think fits her perfectly, even though me mostly just call her Brandy. |
George is named after my Springer Spaniel I had as a child who my brothers named after my Uncle:) I love telling people his name because it's such a big name for such a little boy:) His full name is Sir George Maxamillion of Park Ave:) |
I named Wallee after the pixar move Wall e.. Decided to spell it differently so everyone would know how to pronounce it. |
Little Miss Scarlett got her name because I'm a writer and wanted to name her after one of my favorite literary characters. And she's got Miss O'Hara's spunk! :) |
The night we brought Chip home we went through hundreds of names for him but nothing really hit us. We had some favorites, but nothing that really stood out, although DH was partial to Chip. We left it as undetermined and that something will come to mind eventually and went to bed. Well, the next day Chip ended up super sick - like almost dead sick (I will spare you the long story) - so DH rushed him to the vet. The vet needed a name for him to register him in the system and DH just told them his name was Chip. When he told me, he said we could change it if we wanted, they just need a name for him for their system. It stuck and we love his name... it suits him well! I can't explain it, but he is such a little Chip! We have several nicknames for him as well. Smokey came to us with the name and we decided to keep it. I know everyone says that dogs will adjust to new names easily, but he had already been through one name change (previous name was Coby) and he had been through so much in his short 6 months and had so many anxiety issues that we didn't want to change anything else and we wanted to focus on the more important things, like making him feel safe, secure, and loved. Smokey seems to suit him too, although we usually shorten it to Moke or Mokey. |
2 Attachment(s) Joel is named after Joel Madden from Good Charlotte:D Sometimes he wears his hair like him, lol |
Scoobers was named Scoob at the pound (they thought he was a girl too!) We were still picking names when we got there Milo saw how small scoobers was he was like barely 6 under pounds at thetime and Milo looked at him then back at me and said, it's just a Scoob! It was so cute it stuck, he's a goof ball cluts and it evolved into Scoobers somehow. Elvis came with his name but the kids love Elvis (movies music etc) so when my daughter heard his name she picked him. Princess our mini schnauzer got her name because we already had a jester and a king pkus we had a foster around we nicknamed the queen bee. |
Aww cute name :3 I read above, I like the name Scarlett. I havent gotten my yorkie (yet) so we'll see what happens.. |

I am a believer in the grace of God. I was not ever going to have another dog after my 15 year old Shih Tzu passed on. I tried living without a dog for several months and then decided I just couldn't do it. I looked to adopt an adult small breed dog in my area and could not even find one. I kind of stumbled upon Gracie. I did not want a puppy but could not resist her face. I consider having her a unearned gift from God and thus the name: Gracie. |

When i went to the breeders to pick my baby the only name that came to mind was sam although everyone calls him sammy lol either way it suits him perfectly |
Max was going to be a Winston, Winnie, but my father renamed him because of his intensity. Then the name was going to be "Maximus Decimus Meridius" for Russel Crowe's Gladiator. Our Italian neighbor pronounced it Maximo, and it stuck and we combined it with his breeder's given name. :) Teddy is named after Teddy Roosevelt because he loves the outdoors and has a zest for life. :animal36 |

People can't believe I named a little hairball dog Max....but then they meet him and tell me it fits, lol. |
When we got Mandie, her name was Sophie. My dear hubby thought that was too "fancy" for us country bumpkins. lol So, we started throwing out names of females in our lives past and present. He had a friend in high school named Mandy. Then, he gave me a choice of Mandy or Candy. I chose Mandy (spelled it with an "ie") out of those. She doesn't have a documented middle name but I call her Mandie Jean. My sheltie mix (Mandie's older brother) got his name from my dad's name - Shelby...and Dale Earnhardt. (black car and he is a black and white sheltie mix). Sooo..Shelby-Dale lol |
When I got my puppy, I wanted to give her some kind of Korean name that would be easy for Americans to pronounce. I ended up naming her Toki after a Korean children's nursery song (Santoki...means mountain bunny). Toki certainly has cute bunny ears and hops like one too! |
3 Attachment(s) Lola is Lola Hope. I normally have had trouble with dogs name and seem to try out several before letting once stick. But it just came to me the moment I got her. Hope, a girl I have been mentoring for several years came with me to pick her us and she loved the name as well. Then we had an "official" baptism, Hope was the Godmother so that is when we gave Lola her middle name. I let hope have some friends over for an Easter party and we did it then. Here are some photos from the ceremony, that was in April of 2011. Both of my girls have grown a lot since then |
Jada and Bogie are both rehomes. Jada was 2 1/2 when we adopted her and we just kept the name she had. It fits her to a "T" :p Bogie was 7 months and we left his name the same too. It fits him too:) |
I think I'm going to stick with what the breeder named her Josie, I like it and it suits her. My 5 yo DS wanted to name her Sparkles so that might be her middle name. |
We named Deuce after my hubby's Harley Deuce. |
Chizziewink Atyahoodotbell How Chizzie got her name is a long story - here's the short version. I worked as an elementary school Media Center parapro when I got Chizzie. We read the Georgia Storybook Award Nomniees to the kids. That year my personal favorite was The Chizzywink and the Alamagoozlem. Reading the book to the kids I fell in love with Chizzywink which is another name for a mosquito in Florida. And because the new pup was a tiny ankle biter the name seemed perfect. Personally, I don't like the letter "Y" so I used "ie" instead. Chizzie's mother was Bell and her father was Yahoo (no joke). So Chizzie's full registered name is: Chizziewink Atyahoodotbell (At Yahoo Dot Bell). |
We actually had a hard time getting a puppy-looked for a few months and could only find pitbulls (too big for our yard) and chihuahuas (not a fan.) We found sheltie pups 45 minutes away but we were traveling to NC that weekend so we thought we'd pick one up on Monday. Shelties are Scottish dogs, and my Sir is of Scottish ancestry, so I wanted the dog to have a Scottish name-Tartan if we got the boy, and Dacie or a few others if it was a girl. Well, when we came home, the pups were all spoken for. We found Jaeger a week or so later-half daschund, half yorkie. I thought I'd continue the thought process. I didnt want to go English (as in England English) for the name (for the Yorkie heritage) because the dogs were under 5 lbs at the time and I didnt need a 200 lb name for a 5 lb dog, so I looked at German names instead. Most were terrible and guttural, but I liked the sound of Jaeger, and it means "hunter" in German-which both breeds our. I kept his name a secret for several hours after we got him. i didn't want to admit that I had picked the name before the dog, and wanted to see if it suited him. It stuck, and he's totally lived up to his name-he brings me critters all the time! |
We agreed that we would name our yorkie: Pebbles or Tinka Well, neither seemed to fit her and I was holding her on the recliner the morning after we got her.........looked and said out loud :You are so beautiful, beautiful, bella (Italian for beautiful) Hence, her name is now: Bella....and we put a little bell on her so we could hear her when she was under foot: Jingle Bella...................:) |
Such a cute name |
