steps or ramp My little 12 year old guy is starting to have a difficult time jumping on and off the couch. I am considering getting a ramp or stairs. Any opinion on advantage/disadvantage of each? Can you recommend a specific brand? Thanks |
I like a ramp for older dogs as my Jilly dislocated her shoulder just jumping down a doggy step when she was 12. I think a ramp might have been more gentle on her joint capsule and surrounding muscles and is far less jarring to the joint. Less force is better for the old joint and orthopedic parts to me. Just walking up/down the ramp doesn't seem to produce as much impactful force on the joint as the jumping from step to step does. I recently bought ramps for Tibbe and he's only 5. |
We have a year old shih tzu who won't jump off the couch or bed also. I am also thinking of getting him a ramp. I know it's not his age. He goes up and down the steps with no problem. |
I would get your little guy a ramp if he is having problems going on and off the sofa then eventually he will have problems with stairs so i think a ramp is a better idea, hope he likes his stairs/ramp when you get either :) |
I agree. I think a ramp would be easiest for your little one. KS has steps and rarely uses them, although she is only 1. In the future, we will have to get a ramp too if it becomes difficult for her. |
I like ramps....I have those "scalloped" ones that are easier for them to get their footing on...got mine on ??Ebay ?? Amazon??? |
