Haircuts?
 

Good Morning all!

I was curious if anyone has pictures of of their babies after they have been to the groomers. I am looking for ideas and I am totally nervous to take Milly when the time comes.

Yumi has only had 1 big time hair cut so far here's the before and after. 1st is before 2nd a day after and the 3rd pic is maybe 2 weeks later. It was a huge shock she didn't even look like the same dog, but after a few days I got used to it, and when it started to soften up a bit I even liked it. She is so much easier to brush now I absolutely love it.

Remember, it's just hair :) It will grow back. I groom my two myself because I don't like paying someone else to mess their hair up :p

It's not so much about how much hair will be be removed. It's more so that she will be so scared and I have heard some horror stories about mean groomers. It would break my heart if someone was even just a little mean to her in any way:(

I find that doing a image search on goggle helps a lot, I did not always know about the image part of the search so I would be looking through web site after web site, now I just see the images when all I am interested in is pictures

Where are you taking her? I found a groomer that lets me stay while she's grooming Georgie. I always get a puppy cut for him.

GURRRR ! :mad: Groomers, I literally cringe at hearing that word.

I am SO exasperated at paying that amount of money for incompetence !

Ugh, I hear ya. Grooming is ridiculousy expensive. I have no problem paying crazy costs for a vet check up, vaccines, shots, neutering, spaying, microchipping, ect but when it comes to groomers, i want to rip my hair out. Well, makes more sense to rip my own dog's hair out but obviously that is just inhumane and crazy haha

I've got a little "fetish" with Long Hair on their Ears and Tails.
I have "attempted" to preserve that length (on both) since they were born.
I was JUST DEVASTATED, having told the Groomer to NOT cut the hair on their tails or ears, then to pick them up, and BOTH of them had gaping holes/notches cut in their ear hair.

It was like the Groomer was doing a electric clip up their backs, and jambed the Clippers into their ears, while no doubt gossiping with another Groomer.

I AM LIVID !!!! :mad:

I had bad experiences with 2 groomers and that's how I found this one. When Georgie was 2 I took him to a place that "specialized" in smaller breeds. When I got my sweet boy home he had clipper burn on his unmentionables!!!! I was so upset rushed him to the vet and they gave me meds and ointment. The Vet recommended my current groomer and I just love her. She charges me $30 and I get to sit and wait.

Sorry Shelly didn't mean to hijack your thread with my grooming horror story. I will tell you Georgie didn't act like it bothered him at all Thank God!

This is Sophie at one of her first groomings. She has a cottony coat so I mostly keep her in a short puppy cut. I pay her groomer $33.00 +tip.

I also have a groomer that lets me stay while my dog is being cut, I don't have her bathed there, I do that first a day before. I go at the end of the day when she is just about finished. The type of groomers that are willing to do this are usually small owner operated ones, I like those type of places the best anyway, they tend to get to know your dog and you can talk peronally with them and if you can't stay at least you know who will be grooming your dog

I bathe Georgie as well and dry him. She is definitely a small owner operated. She has a couple of people that help. I like that as well.

you should see me when I am there, I sit right next to her and often hold Lola and I swear I just about approve every strand she cuts. Even though I bathe her at home, I pay the same or even more because she spends over an hour on her. A lot of groomers would not like this but I have used her for years, she works by herself and is not overly busy, plus I think she likes the company.

Search on here for the joey cut thats how Im doing my jewels next its where the face and legs are left long but the body is shaved. It works real well if you put clothes on them keeps them from matting

I don't mind paying a decent amount of money for a professional to do my dog's hair. The problem is that anyone can call themselves a groomer without a bit of training or experience. The chain pet stores hire inexperienced people off the streets and train them themselves. This is more than concerning to me and I will not leave my dog at one of those places.

I have also tried a few privately owned groomers with mixed results. Find out what their experience has been. Who trained them and what kind of cuts they usually do? There are many people who only take their dog to a groomer when they need the bathe and shave thing done and don't really care much about a particular hairstyle and so groomers get used to doing mostly the same type of thing all the time. "Bathe and shave." or vise versa.

The best groomer I have ever met is my present groomer. She spent many years breeding and showing Shih Tzu's. She has groomed for show dogs for many years. She knows what they are supposed to look like and has the intelligence and respect to do exactly what I ask and no more. I did not leave Gracie alone there until I was comfortable with the safety level as well as the kindness afforded these animals. Now she calls me as soon as she is done. Gracie is never there for more than an hour and a half and always looks and smells fantastic when done. She is not traumatized at all by the visit which is very important to me.

i do not take my 2 little ones to the groomer but my airedale has to go . he is too big for me to groom.
i took him to a new groomer near my home i was horrified to notice when i got home that they had actually cut both sides of his face with the clippers. i even called them and told them what they did and they not concerned at all. they said he moves too much. omg, i wanted to scream..
after much searching he now has a perfect groomer whom he loves

Be careful with just saying "puppy cut." We did that once with Tigger and we were appalled at the result. Now we take in 4 "good" photos and 4 "what-not-to-do" photos so they groomer doesn't have any questions. We also finally found one we like, so I guess that has a lot to do with it. Lol that sounds like me I say can you cut this a little shorter? She is a good sport and wants her client to be happy. I am sure she also enjoys her tip:)

Shelly definitely take pictures of what you want so the groomer can see.

Rigby is too young to be groomed yet but when Gizmo was alive, he had many haircuts...LOL. Here are a few examples. The most extreme was the Schnauzer cut.

I actually don't mind groomer prices. I feel like it's a really hard job -- and clearly I don't want to do it. They have a lot of dogs who HATE being groomed and wiggly, and then in the end, it has to be a NICE looking hair cut. It's not an easy job. So I don't mind paying and I always give extra.

I found a great mobile groomer and I pay $55 and I usually give her $65.

Well, a good groomer should know how to deal with a nervous or disorderly dog. But I do think that any dog owner should do daily combing and brushing and baths in between trips to the groomer so the dog is accustomed to baths and combing as well as the blow dryer.
