Vet problems Yesterday I took my eight month old Chi to the vet to get a certificate saying that she is healthy enough to go on an airplane with me on Thursday. And she ways. But in the exam room the vet had asked me for Melly's rabbie certificate and I had all her papers and he told me everything was perfect and I was ready to go. So driving home I was looking over the certificate and where it says proof of rabies ( it also said in parenthesis "important") there was nothing filled out, so we turned around and went back. When we got there I asked them what had gone on and they said that they figured I would fly with the certificate ( they never told me this) and that since they did not give Melly the shot(was done in Arkansas) that they would not fill that part out. Then they told me that they wanted to give her another rabie shot, even though she was not due for another one for another 4 months, so I went home and found more papers, even the old certificate that I had used to fly. So today I am going back to show them every piece of paper work that Melly has, and I am not going to let them give her another shot. Does anybody have any comments or suggestions that might help. Or just piece of mind, cause anything helps. Thanks. |
Maybe its best to phone the airway's to ask them what you should do. Surely if she's only due for another rabie shot in 4 months time, this should be valid? I dont know, but sometimes these vet's come up with weird suggestions  I hope this all turns out ok for you! And lets hope there's someone on here that will be able to give you advice on this. Sorry im not much help, but ill *BUMP* this thread and hoping for the best! Good luck! :) |

I must tell you that I have flown probably 20 times with Edie, all over the country. I have NEVER been asked for the health certificate. I take one anyway, but if my experience is an indication, you won't have to show it. |

I used to sneak Edie onboard before 9/11 (she was just a baby) but I quit doing that after that. Never got caught though! |
Thankyou everybody for your suggestions, we called the airline and now found out that the airline we chose ( southwest ) does not allow anykind of animal to be on board. So all this work for nothing. But thank you for everything I will use everybodys advice for the future. |

The last few we have had to ship Delta Cargo. they also asked for papers. We put shredded newspapers in the bottom of the crate and then have to take the dog out and let them search the newspaper. A few times right after 9/11, they even searched our dogs body cavities. They put a nuzzle on them to do. haven't had anyone do that for a long time. |
