when my yorkies coat gets longer, how do i keep it nice? :yorkiesar:yorkiesar:animal36 When dodger gets older I want to make sure his hair Is shinny and knot free, any tips? |
Rosie has the long coat. I bath her weekly and brush her at least twice a day. I highly recommend PEK conditioner too. I also use a detangler on her. Yorkie Sheen is the one I use. A good brush is a must! I really like the Madan brush sold by Jenny at toplinepets.com. Brushing is very important with the longer coat in my opinion. It is a lot of work but so worth it!! :D |
I love a well groomed Yorkie in full coat! I always kept Benji in a full coat, and since I was able to save most of Lily's, I plan to do the same with her. With a Yorkie in full coat, I'll bathe then every 5-7 days, sooner if they get dirty faster, and brush them 1-2 times a day. It does take some upkeep, but I also believe it's well worth it, a well kept up Yorkie in full coat is quite a beauty to behold! |
Lillie is the only one out of my 3 that has a pretty coat...although I clipped Bentley when he was 9 months old...he is a yr now so his coat really hasn't come in yet...I USED to keep Lillie in full coat...she was GORGEOUS! all of a sudden she didn't like being brushed anymore and she matts easily...so....she gets clipped now as well...I don't clip them short though...I would say I keep them in half coat! |

We use a wooden pin brush - Cali's hair is thick and it just slides right through. Good to start brushing them regularly as soon as possible :D |
These products look great, but seem to be only available in the USA. What do the UK owners use and recommend? |
I love the Madan pin brushes and the grooming combs. The mustache comb is a must for Yorkie parents. I also have a few Chris Christensen brushes, which are excellent, but the prices on the Madan brushes and combs are much better, and their quality is also wonderful. The mustache comb is like the CC buttercomb 06, but it's a third of the price when you buy it from Jenny. Jenny is a pleasure to order from. She always is there to help, to give grooming advice, and she promptly ships your order. My favorite brush of all is a wooden pin brush from CC, but Kristin (Maximo) sells one from #! All Systems that is also excellent, and she is also wonderful to order from. Although I love the wooden pin brush, I also need a steel pin brush one, too, and I'm finding using combs is also highly effective. You can't go wrong if you order from either Jenny (mimimomo--topline pets) or Kristin (Maximo--W. Field's Dog Boutique). Both Kristin and Jenny sell IOD shampoo, which is really wonderful. I've only used the higher priced, Coature line that Kristin sells (I love it!), but Jenny carries the Natural Luxury, paraben and sulfate-free line. I also love PEK conditioner (IV San Bernard IV SAN BERNARD PEK CONDITIONER), Chris Christensen Spectrum 10 Smooth System Chris Christensen Specials & Promotions or Shampoo Systems Kits Sample Sizes for Pet Grooming, Show Dogs & Cats, and Jerob Cocoa Butter Mink Oil shampoo that I've used for almost twenty years (Jerob Cocoa Butter and Mink Oil Shampoo | Jerob). You will also need a good detangling spray so that you aren't brushing a dry coat. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/member.php?u=19198273 Dog Grooming Supplies | W.
