Hello!!! New Here!! I recently rescued a female four year old yorkie. She was previously used for breeding and that is about it. She has very minimum social skills. She is not housebroken. My heart went out to her and I decided to take her in. She is petrified of my three year old even though my daughter does nothing but look and try to pet her. I want this to be successful and make a better life for Mouse. How can I get her to feel less afraid of people ?? especially my daughter. I have so much to learn!! And getting her housebroken is another issue but I am taking this one day at a time as it is a new experience for her as well. I am so happy to be here and get to know all of you as well. |
Welcome to YT! I would love to see pictures of your sweet girl:) I think a good start would be having your daughter give her a treat. That would help her warm up to her. Other's here I am sure can offer you so much more advice. Bless you for taking her in and giving her the love she so richly deserves. |
welcome and bless you for giving this sweet girl a home. love the name mouse , it is too cute.... |
Just love her and take it one day at a time she may not be used to lones. to If you could work up the relationship to the point your daughter be the one to give treats, play with her with a special toy she will associate your daughter with good things and learn to trust her. You should do a thread in training on potty training and youll get alot of good advice. I would consider her like a puppy with potty training and start from scratch. Good luck and thank you for rescuing her |
Welcome to YT:) Thank you SO much for rescuing that little girl:love: She will need some time and lots of patience to come out of her shell. Maybe your little girl can give her yummy treats (tiny bits of cheese or chicken breast) as a way to let her know that good things come from her new human sister;) Here is a link to some great tips for helping your new little one adjust: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...ll-rescue.html Best of luck to you, and please keep us posted on how you are getting along:D |

patience is key with training. are you pad training her or outside?? you have to watch them like a hawk and put them on the pad or outside when you catch them. i would always say you go pee and poo here on your potty pad and just kept doing it until cedric understood what i was teaching him. i never used treats but i know some prefer using treats for potty training. yorkies are not always found of small children. cedric has been with me since he was 10 weeks old and he is very fearful of small children. and this being a rescue who knows what she endured in her years breeding. i would suggest having a safe place for mouse to go to when she feels unsafe. a small crate or what not to call her own to flea too when shes feeling stressed she can retreat...this will help her feel safer. i have a stroller set up for lola my rescue whos fearful of her own shadow and its her favorite hiding spot. and as suggest above have your daughter give her treats to start out. and then maybe some toys or her put her dinner plate down everyday. good luck i hope they begin to bond. and thank you so much for saving her and giving her a loving, safe home!!! |
Thank you for the warm welcome!!!! I have so much to learn and yes I will post a topic about potty training her. :) |
Welcome to YorkieTalk and thank you for rescuing Mouse! Give her some time... She's not used to getting the love you are providing, so she needs to learn that you aren't going to hurt her and that she is finally safe :) |
Welcome and grats on you're new addition to your family! Give her time, she'll get used to everything! The treat idea is a good one, and supervised play time between your daughter and Mouse will help. :animal36 Post a picture of them when you can :) |
Congrats and welcome to YT :) |
She will come around. My Brandi is a rescue who was used for breeding as well. With lots of love and patience she will be a diva before you know it. :p |
Welcome to Yorkie Talk and congrats on adopting a little rescue. :) |
Thank You for adopting this little girl. You will find many helpful posts in our Yorkie Talk library. One thing I have found when working with rescues is they are often over whelmed by everything. Sometimes they take awhile to trust just one person. Go slow and allow her some space. Let her know that your home is a stable place. Create a good routine of feeding , play , grooming and walks. Be careful not to reenforce shy behavior by showing pity. It is ok to be gentle and loving. Congrats |
