Xylitol Question Xylitol has been proven to be fatal to dogs. For that very reason, I was wondering if anyone knew *why* they (the manufacturers and developers) keep putting this killer in dog toothpastes? Several of them still have this ingredient. Regardless of whether it's a minute amount - that is daily toxins entering their body even if they don't swallow it (which they're going to do anyway, even to a small degree). Please read the ingredients on your dog's toothpaste(s) and if you see Xylitol in that list - kick it to the curb before it does the same to your best friend. |
I imagine they say the amount is far less than is known to be harmful to the dog. I say avoid it like the plague and don't take chances but we have mercury in a lot of fish, particularly some tuna, I think it is, and we don't avoid it. We have radiation in watches and airplanes but we don't avoid them due to the relatively low amounts. I guess it's the same principle. |
I suppose...it just seems to me that since they use their toothpaste on a routine basis it wouldn't contain it at *all* - i mean...why put it in there in the first place if it's just a sugar substitute? ...sometimes I have to wonder if everything in the world (including the lives of our fursies) is about money. I have to wonder if it's to put $$$ in the pockets of our veterinarians. (I know that sounds bad but nothing else makes sense) They even put Xylitol in doggie chews. :( |
Raw hide has been known to kill dogs yet it is still exclusive sold in pet stores for dogs. Fire retardants are known neurotoxins that sicken and can kill the elderly and infants...yet we soak all fabrics in it for .7 seconds of slowed burn...seems to me people should stoo playing with fire...in both the literal and metaphorical ways. Xylitol is both a sugar sub. AND has whittening properties. |
Part of it is money undoutabley...how many children had to get sick abd die in the 3long decades we KNnEW lead was the cause (specifically lead paint) before we stopped allowing lead based paint on cribs and infant toys??? BTW ANY toy fir children 3and up by design CAN have lead based paint on it still... |
